The admissions and career counseling program on the morning of March 16 in Bac Lieu welcomed a special guest: Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Chairman of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee. He directly sent messages to thousands of Bac Lieu students participating in the program.

Need people to develop high-tech agriculture and renewable energy

Chairman Pham Van Thieu said: Bac Lieu is located in the southernmost part of the country, on the Ca Mau peninsula, where three typical ecological zones converge: salty, brackish and fresh.

With that strength, Bac Lieu has been developing strongly in agriculture, in which the aquaculture industry accounts for a large proportion. Currently, the agricultural sector accounts for about 42% of the province's economic structure.

Over the years, Bac Lieu has always focused on the policy of developing aquaculture, especially shrimp, and is proud to be the "shrimp capital" of the country. In 2024 alone, the province's shrimp export turnover will reach 1.18 billion USD.

"Bac Lieu is also focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, with models of shrimp farming and clean rice cultivation in a sustainable, environmentally friendly direction, aiming for a green economy and a circular economy. The province is in great need of human resources to develop these fields," Mr. Thieu emphasized.

Not only stopping at agriculture, Mr. Thieu said that Bac Lieu also effectively exploits the potential of renewable energy. Bac Lieu wind power plant is the first coastal wind power plant in Vietnam. In the past, Bac Lieu has implemented 8 wind power projects, with a capacity of nearly 500MW.

In the near future, Bac Lieu will start construction on a large-scale gas-fired power plant worth 4 billion USD, requiring a very high demand for technical labor and skilled workers, with more than 2,000 workers needed every day during the construction phase alone. This is the largest 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) project in the Mekong Delta region to date.

"The province will need a lot of human resources working in the technical field, especially related to energy and renewable energy," Mr. Thieu said.

Semiconductor factory in Bac Lieu needs human resources

Regarding information technology, Mr. Thieu said that Bac Lieu is promoting the development of digital technology, digital industry, and digital government towards serving people and businesses on online platforms, gradually reducing direct administrative procedures at state agencies.

Besides, the province also attracts many high-tech projects, notably projects related to artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor manufacturing.

"There are businesses ready to invest in building chip factories in Bac Lieu, but the key issue they are asking is that the province needs to provide enough human resources," said Mr. Thieu.

The province is promoting the construction of a new industrial park with a scale of 500 hectares, creating momentum to attract investment, develop industry, services and create jobs for local workers.

In the near future, when the expressway connecting Bac Lieu with Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and the coastal route is completed, Bac Lieu will have many new opportunities to develop more strongly. This continues to pose an urgent need for high-quality human resources, especially in industries where businesses are in great demand.

"I hope that students will clearly define their career orientation, choose careers that are suitable to the trends and practical needs of the province, so that when they graduate, they can easily find a job, take care of themselves, their families and contribute to the development of Bac Lieu and the country," said Mr. Thieu.

Personally, I highly appreciate the sense of responsibility and aspiration of Tuoi Tre in caring about the development of the young generation not only in Bac Lieu but also in the country.

Choose a major based on technology trends

Speaking at the opening ceremony, journalist Tran Xuan Toan - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper - shared the trends of digital transformation, automation, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and renewable energy that are shaping the future of many industries.

Therefore, students need to consider choosing a major and school that is suitable for this development trend.

Especially for strongly developing localities like Bac Lieu, investing in high-quality human resources in the field of technology and engineering will be the key to seizing opportunities, contributing to the transformation of the province in the coming period.
