Cuban National Assembly Chairman begins working visit to Vietnam

On November 2, President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez led a delegation of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba to Hanoi, began a working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, born February 26, 1944 in Jovellanos, Matanzas, Cuba. In 1961, Esteban Lazo Hernandez joined the Cuban Revolutionary Militia. In 1962, he was a member of the Revolutionary Defense Committee. In 1963, he joined the Communist Party of Cuba. In 1964, he was a member of the Accounting Committee in Jovellanos, in charge of education. In 1968, he held the position of Secretary of the San Pedro de Mayabon District Party Committee, Los Arabos. In 1969, he was Head of the Organizational Committee of the Colon Regional Bureau. In 1971, Head of the Organizational Committee in Matanzas Province.

In 1979, he was a Provincial Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in Matanzas, a member of the Provincial Party Committee Office. He held the positions of Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Matanzas Provincial Party Committee; and was also a National Assembly delegate from 1980 to 1981. He was Secretary of the Santiago de Cuba Provincial Party Committee from 1986 to 1994, Vice President of the State Council from 1992 to 2013, and Secretary of the Havana City Party Committee from 1994 to 2013. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

On February 24, 2013, he was elected Chairman of the National Assembly at the 8th National Assembly. On April 18, 2018, he was re-elected as Chairman of the National Assembly at the 9th National Assembly. From April 19, 2023 to present, he has held the position of Chairman of the 10th National Assembly.

President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez has always paid attention to strengthening parliamentary cooperation, contributing to the development of Vietnam-Cuba relations. Comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal in April 2023.
