Applying technology and digitalization in payment and sales at traditional markets in Ha Tinh not only promotes business but also brings many benefits to both sellers and buyers.
Most of the stalls at Ha Tinh City market have QR codes for payment.
In recent years, cashless payment, scanning QR codes to transfer money has become popular in trading activities at traditional markets. On clothing, footwear, food stalls..., most have QR codes for customers to pay when buying goods and using services.
Selling decorative products and stationery at Ha Tinh City Market for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga shared: “Previously, most customers paid in cash or when customers transferred money, I often read the account number, but for more than a year now, I have been using QR codes for payment. Currently, almost every stall has a QR code board, even one stall has 2-3 codes of banks. This form of payment is very convenient and more and more customers pay in this form.”
Mr. Nguyen Thang Long - Head of Ha Tinh City Market Management Board said: "Ha Tinh City Market currently has more than 1,800 stalls with about 2,300 business households. Most of the traders have QR codes for customers to transfer money when paying. On the market management board's side, we also actively promote to traders about digital transformation, the 4.0 market model, coordinate with units to gradually digitize business activities, catch up with the digital transformation trend".
More than 70% of customers shopping at Ms. Le Thi Thuong's counter pay by bank transfer.
As a regular customer at the market, Ms. Nguyen Lan Phuong (office worker in Ha Tinh City) shared: “The stalls have QR codes for payment, which is very convenient for buyers. When going to the market, I don’t need to hold money or get change. This helps save time, is hygienic and safe for customers.”
At Giang Dinh market (Nghi Xuan), most of the stalls now have QR codes for payment. Ms. Le Thi Thuong - a clothing vendor at Giang Dinh market (Nghi Xuan) said: "With the support of the bank to create a board and scan code, we have been using QR scanning for payment for 2 years now. This has brought many benefits such as reducing the risk of counterfeit money, torn money, easy money management, quick payment, saving time for both sellers and buyers. Up to now, more than 70% of customers pay by bank transfer".
Besides selling directly at the market, Ms. Le Thi Thuy often posts new products on her Facebook page to attract more customers.
For many years now, business in traditional markets has been facing difficulties, with fewer and fewer customers coming to the market to shop due to the development of modern retail formats. Therefore, along with changing payment methods, many traders in traditional markets in Ha Tinh have quickly applied information technology in sales activities to promote business.
"Following the development trend of technology, we also have to renew ourselves to sell better. In addition to selling directly at the market, I often post new product samples on my Facebook page for customers to refer to. The number of customers interacting through this channel is quite large, some customers will order right away and some will come to the counter to look at the products and choose", Ms. Le Thi Thuy - selling children's clothes at the market in Ha Tinh city shared.
Food stalls in traditional markets also use QR codes for payment.
It can be seen that the application of information technology in the business sector creates conditions for traders and consumers to access modern business methods, helping business operations become more effective and contributing to promoting the digital transformation process in the province. This is also a way for traders to attract and retain customers in the context of traditional markets having to compete fiercely with other forms of business.
Mr. Vo Ta Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: “There are currently about 150 traditional markets in Ha Tinh. Digitalization has brought many practical benefits to sellers and buyers and made traditional markets more modern and convenient. Currently, in most markets, traders have applied digitalization to business activities such as cashless payments; exploiting online strengths to develop production and business activities by selling goods through e-commerce platforms and social networks. In addition, many markets have also implemented management and settlement through technology software”.
