A middle school student in Dong Nai had both hands crushed and suffered severe eye injuries from making explosive firecrackers at home.
On January 26, Dong Nai Children's Hospital confirmed that a male secondary school student suffered severe eye injuries and crushed hands due to exploding firecrackers.
The patient is VCM (15 years old, residing in Ward 4, Trang Bom Town, Trang Bom District), a student at Hung Vuong Secondary School.
Initial information, on the evening of January 25, Trang Bom District Medical Center received M. with crushed hands and injuries to her head and face.
According to information from the family to the doctor, the firecracker exploded while the male student was making it at home, causing serious injuries to both hands and the right eye socket of the male student.
Immediately afterwards, the male student was taken to Trang Bom District Medical Center for first aid and then transferred to Dong Nai Children's Hospital for treatment.
However, due to severe injuries to the eye socket and hand, the patient continued to be transferred to a higher level for treatment.
According to Dr. Pham Van Khuong, head of the orthopedic trauma and burn department at Dong Nai Children's Hospital, the consequences of gunshot wounds are quite serious, often resulting in loss of limbs, and the remaining limbs also losing many functions or leaving many sequelae.
Dr. Khuong recommends that parents pay more attention and regularly advise them about the harmful effects of playing with firecrackers. At the same time, they should closely monitor their children to avoid unfortunate consequences from making or playing with firecrackers.
Risk of disability and loss of fingers due to firecrackers
Previously, at the end of 2024, Dong Nai Children's Hospital also received and provided emergency care to many children injured by firecrackers.
A typical example is PNK (14 years old, residing in Dinh Quan district) who was admitted to the emergency room with several crushed fingers on her right hand and soft tissue damage.
Meanwhile, NVS (14 years old, living in Trang Bom district) was even more seriously injured when the firecracker exploded, crushing his hand, amputating 2.5 fingers of his left hand, along with abdominal and chest injuries.
According to statistics from Dong Nai Children's Hospital, in 2024, the unit received, provided emergency care and treated more than 10 children with firecracker and firearm accidents of varying degrees of severity.
In many cases, people became disabled, lost fingers, lost hands, had burns all over their faces and bodies, had to be hospitalized for a long time and had serious consequences.
