Dutch striker aims to beat Vietnam and Portugal

Lieke Martens assessed that the Netherlands women's team's group at the 2023 World Cup is challenging. All teams have improved. Therefore, Martens is determined to win against two opponents considered weaker, Vietnam and Portugal.

" Portugal have good results against strong teams. We have faced them before and it is not easy to beat them. We know this is the most important match of the group stage. If we win this match, we hope to beat Vietnam to advance to the knockout round ," Martens shared.

Martens usually plays as a winger for the Netherlands national team.

The Netherlands is the current world runner-up. In Group E, besides Vietnam and Portugal, there is also the US national team, the current champion. Martens is cautious when talking about this opponent.

" The last time we met them was at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. We could have beaten them. I missed a penalty in regulation time and then lost on penalties. It was really frustrating. Since then, they have played better, and so have we. The next match between the two teams promises to be very exciting ," the 1992-born star assessed.

" If I win the championship, I will fulfill my dream. It is a difficult challenge but nothing is impossible. I will try to prepare the best and believe in my team, " Martens said.
