Previously, according to a report from the Son Lap Commune Health Station, Bao Lac District, the first suspected case of measles in the area died.
The patient is Hoang AQ (born in 2023), H'Mong ethnic group, living in Ban Oong hamlet, Son Lap commune. The patient came to the Pac Nam District Medical Center, Bac Kan province for examination and treatment and died.
According to the health sector report, Q fell ill on March 7 and was admitted to the hospital in serious condition on the morning of March 10.
The patient was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, high fever, severe dehydration/measles (patient has not been tested yet). Despite emergency care and intensive treatment, the patient's condition did not improve and he died at 9:30 p.m. the same day.
The cause of death was determined to be late arrival at the hospital, complications of severe pneumonia, acute respiratory failure and severe dehydration.
Noting the complicated measles epidemic situation in Son Lap commune, Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Bao Lac District Medical Center sent working groups to Son Lap commune to grasp the epidemic situation, investigate cases, monitor and support the Commune Health Station in epidemic prevention and control.
Cao Bang Provincial Department of Health directed the Medical Centers of districts and cities to strengthen monitoring and prevention of measles in particular and other epidemics; to propagate and recommend that when children show signs of measles, they should immediately take their children to the nearest medical facility for timely examination and treatment, to limit complications that can endanger the lives of young children.
Cao Bang province's health sector proposed that the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology provide additional measles vaccines to continue to increase measles vaccination for children from 1 to 10 years old.
