BTO - This morning (April 26), Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai, along with representatives from several relevant departments and agencies, inspected the site and listened to a report on the siltation situation at La Gi estuary.
Reporting at the inspection, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that the entrance channel to the estuary is being silted up and narrowed. Simultaneously, sandbars have appeared in the middle of the estuary, with the silting extending from the beginning of the sand-blocking dike to the outer reaches of the estuary. Currently, the shipping channel has narrowed, and rocks and Tetrapods are present, posing a danger and safety risk to vessels entering and exiting the estuary. Fishing vessels with a capacity of over 200 horsepower are having great difficulty entering and exiting, requiring towing services.
Notably, the silting of the La Gi estuary is a serious problem, causing frustration among fishermen due to property damage and difficulties and dangers for vessels entering and exiting the estuary, anchoring, unloading products, and sheltering from storms. If this situation continues, it will negatively impact the morale of fishermen and could lead to a security and order hotspot, therefore prompt and urgent action is necessary.
According to the proposed emergency dredging plan for the La Gi estuary by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, based on the current channel conditions, the proposed scope for emergency dredging and channel clearing includes a channel length of 250m, a width of 40m, and a dredging depth of -3.5m. The dredging area is approximately 1 hectare with a volume of 35,000 m³ . The estimated cost for the emergency dredging and channel clearing of the La Gi estuary, prepared by the Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board (the unit assigned as the investor for similar dredging projects in the La Gi fishing port area), is approximately 4.126 billion VND .
Due to the urgent need to prevent and mitigate natural disaster damage and ensure the safety of fishermen's lives and property during production activities, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that the Provincial People's Committee consider allocating funds from the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Fund to urgently dredge and clear the La Gi estuary.
After conducting an on-site inspection and listening to reports from relevant units regarding the current situation and proposed dredging plans, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai emphasized that dredging and clearing the La Gi estuary is currently very urgent to ensure the safety of property and lives of fishermen in their production activities. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee leadership requested the Department of Planning and Investment to propose the agency or unit with the function and responsibility to carry out the dredging and clearing of the La Gi estuary. The Department of Finance was also requested to promptly submit a report proposing that the Provincial People's Committee consider the funding source for the dredging and clearing of the La Gi estuary...
