BTO-This morning (April 26), Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai and representatives of leaders of a number of relevant departments, agencies and sectors came to inspect the situation and listen to reports on the silting situation of La Gi estuary.
Reporting at the inspection, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the channel in and out of the estuary is being silted up and narrowed by sand. At the same time, sand dunes appear in the middle of the estuary, the silting area extends from the beginning of the sand-blocking and wave-reducing dike to the outside of the estuary. Currently, the shipping channel has been narrowed, there are rocks and Tetrapods on the channel, causing danger and insecurity for ships entering and leaving the estuary. Particularly, fishing boats with a capacity of over 200 CV have difficulty entering and leaving, requiring towing vehicles to enter and leave the estuary.
Notably, the silting of the La Gi estuary is taking place seriously, causing frustration among fishermen because it has caused property damage and difficulties and dangers for boats when entering and leaving the estuary, anchoring, loading and unloading products, and taking shelter from storms. If this situation continues, it will have a negative impact on the psychology of fishermen, possibly leading to a security and order hotspot, so it is necessary to handle it promptly and urgently.
According to the proposal for emergency dredging of La Gi estuary by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, from the current status of the channel, the proposed scope of dredging and emergency channel clearance is 250m long, 40m wide, and 3.5m deep. The dredging area is about 1 ha with a volume of 35,000 m3 . The estimated cost of emergency dredging of La Gi estuary is prepared by the Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board (the unit assigned to be the investor of similar dredging projects in the La Gi fishing port area) at about 4,126 billion VND .
Due to the urgent and timely nature of natural disaster prevention and control, ensuring the safety of assets and lives of fishermen in production activities, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that the Provincial People's Committee consider allocating resources from the Provincial Disaster Prevention Fund to handle urgent dredging and clearing of La Gi estuary.
After inspecting the actual situation and listening to the units' reports on the current situation and proposing dredging plans, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai emphasized that dredging and clearing the La Gi estuary is currently very urgent to ensure the safety of assets and lives of fishermen in production activities. Therefore, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Planning and Investment to propose agencies and units with functions and tasks to carry out dredging and clearing the La Gi estuary. The Department of Finance will soon have a report proposing to the Provincial People's Committee to consider funding sources to carry out dredging and clearing the La Gi estuary...
