Mr. Nguyen Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Quang Nam province, said that at the working session with Quang Nam province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the proposal to study investment and exploitation of Chu Lai Airport in the form of socialization. The People's Committee of Quang Nam province then coordinated with relevant agencies to complete the report on the Project on socialization of investment and exploitation of Chu Lai Airport to send to the Central Government.
According to the project, by 2030, investment will be made in building a passenger terminal with a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and synchronous technical infrastructure works; a cargo terminal with a capacity of about 1.5 million tons of cargo/year. The capital mobilization demand for infrastructure investment at Chu Lai Airport is about 11,000 billion VND. Of which, investment in the airport area is about 3,500 billion VND; parking area is about 1,000 billion VND; civil aviation area is about 6,500 billion VND (excluding site clearance costs).
According to the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, in the master plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in June 2023, Chu Lai International Airport is planned to have a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year by 2030, and about 30 million passengers/year by 2050.
In addition, Chu Lai Airport is oriented to become an international cargo transit logistics center; a large regional aircraft repair and maintenance center, capable of serving foreign airlines... becoming one of the three largest airports in the country, with a total area of over 2,000 hectares.
Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that recently, representatives of Sovico Group and Adani Group (India) had a working session with Quang Nam provincial leaders to propose investing in Chu Lai International Airport.
According to the Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee has established a working group to handle documents, procedures and promote and call for social investment and exploitation of Chu Lai Airport. Chu Lai Airport has a total area of over 2,000 hectares of land, the land is managed by the state, so it is very convenient for investment.
“In order to implement the Prime Minister's conclusion announcement when working with Quang Nam province in 2022 on the policy, Quang Nam wishes to invest in Chu Lai airport in the form of socialization, so in the past time, Quang Nam has invited and many large economic groups are researching and wishing to invest in Chu Lai airport. Currently, the locality is waiting for the competent authority to consider the policy for implementation,” said Mr. Dung.
