Vietnam has made strong economic progress, highly appreciated by the international community, from a backward agricultural country with a small economy, in the early years of renovation, GDP only reached 26.3 billion USD; after nearly 40 years, by 2023, the scale of Vietnam's economy will reach about 430 billion USD, GDP per capita will reach 4,300 USD, 58 times higher than in the early years of renovation. These remarkable development achievements have helped Vietnam establish a new position in the world economy.
Up to now, with a wide economic network, including more than 230 countries and territories and 17 free trade agreements (FTAs), including many new generation FTAs, Vietnam has actively integrated into the world economy and become one of the 40 largest economies. For Vietnam to enter a new era, an era of national development, economic cooperation needs to have innovative steps, breakthrough developments to actively contribute to the development of the country.
The extensive renovation process has helped Vietnam successfully transform from a closed economy to an open economy, deeply integrating internationally, promoting industrialization and modernization. With the creative, unique thinking and unique way of doing things of the Vietnamese people, our country has achieved great achievements, leaving its mark in history, as the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: "Never before has our country had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today."
The new era will be the era of the Vietnamese people's rise. The basis for positioning the goal of bringing the country into the new era is the great achievements after 40 years of renovation under the leadership of the Party. These achievements have helped Vietnam accumulate enough position and strength for breakthrough development in the next stage.
Vietnam is the 4th largest economy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 35th in the world, and is one of the economies with the highest GDP growth rate in the world (according to the announcement of the World Bank (WB). Vietnam's poverty rate has decreased among the fastest in the world, from 58.1% in 1993 to 1.93% (by the end of September 2024). The economic structure has shifted towards gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture and gradually increasing the proportion of industry and services.
From a closed economy, Vietnam has become an economy with a deep level of global integration, becoming the 22nd largest trading partner in the world, with total import-export turnover in 2023 reaching nearly 700 billion USD, attracting a large amount of foreign investment reaching 23 billion USD, this is the highest investment level of Vietnam ever, even when major markets are shrinking and the global supply chain is still broken.
The new era will be the era of the Vietnamese people's rise. The basis for positioning the goal of bringing the country into the new era is the great achievements after 40 years of renovation under the leadership of the Party, which have helped Vietnam accumulate enough position and strength for breakthrough development in the next stage.
The world is in a period of epochal change. From now until 2030 is the most important period to establish a new world order. This is also a period of important strategic opportunity, the final stage of the Vietnamese revolution to achieve the 100-year strategic goal under the leadership of the Party, creating a solid foundation to achieve the goal of 100 years of national founding.
The epochal change brings new opportunities and advantages but also presents many new difficulties and challenges, of which the latter are more prominent. However, opportunities and luck can still appear amidst the sudden changes in the world situation.
In the Era of Rising, Vietnam will focus on promoting creative capacity, developing an innovation ecosystem, making science, technology and innovation the driving force for rapid and sustainable national development, ensuring the highest promotion of the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, national pride"; opening up new development prospects, expanding living space. Developing science and technology, innovation and comprehensive human development are two important pillars, creating breakthrough momentum for national development.
Innovation must go deep and spread in all aspects of social life, in economic development, become a regular, key activity, create new values, bring breakthrough changes to businesses, to the social community and to the country. Forming a network of innovation centers from the central to regional and local levels, leading and spreading the culture of innovation to all Vietnamese people according to the policies of the Party and State, contributing significantly to promoting economic restructuring and renewing the growth model, improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy, marking the beginning of a new wave of development of the Vietnamese innovation ecosystem.
Digital transformation, innovation and creativity will be the pivotal stage for Vietnam to rise up and develop. Every citizen needs to contribute their efforts and intelligence to the development of innovation in the country, contributing to the country's faster development and making remarkable achievements in innovation in the international arena. That requires agencies, organizations, businesses and people to change their way of thinking and working, to innovate, promote internal strength and take advantage of international knowledge to be able to improve productivity, competitiveness, for the happiness of the people and enhance Vietnam's reputation in the international arena.
