VELP 2024 : Suggests many strategic issues for Vietnam
As reported, from April 1-3, Comrade Le Minh Khai, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 2024 Vietnam Senior Leadership Program (VELP) at Harvard University, Boston, USA.
The VELP 2024 program focuses on three main discussion topics. First, the prospects and notable developments of the world economy, the Asian economy, assessing major transformation trends and their impacts on the Vietnamese economy. Second, promoting new growth drivers in Vietnam, especially innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Third, solutions to overcome the middle-income trap and transform the growth model.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, after eight successful events, the VELP Program has become one of the prestigious dialogue and policy consulting programs, through exchange and dialogue to enhance understanding, consolidate trust, and open up practical cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the United States.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed that Vietnam wishes to continue to closely coordinate with the United States to implement the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries in all fields, especially education and training.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that Vietnam always identifies external resources as playing an important and breakthrough role, including policy advice, management experience and human resource training.
With the spirit of sincerity, trust, sharing, cooperation and development, in the context of the world undergoing profound changes, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai believes that the VELP 2024 Program will help to raise many strategic issues, shape the vision and provide specific and practical recommendations for Vietnam.

Harvard Kennedy School President impressed with Vietnam's development
During his participation in the VELP Program 2024, on the afternoon of April 1 (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai received Professor Douglas Elmendorf, President of Harvard Kennedy School, Professor David Golan, President of Harvard Medical School and professors of the Vietnam Program at Harvard University.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his delight at visiting and exchanging with leading experts from the oldest university in the United States, which has trained many world-famous experts and scientists, and is also one of the universities actively promoting educational cooperation with Vietnam.

Professor Douglas Elmendorf expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development; affirmed to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam, focusing on sharing research and assessments of the international, regional and economic situation in Vietnam.
The President of Harvard University agreed to strengthen cooperation and training links between Harvard University and Vietnamese ministries, sectors and universities; affirmed that Harvard will continue to promote Fulbright University to become an institution providing high-quality human resources for Vietnam's development.

Regarding the VELP program, he highly appreciated the long-term cooperation between the two sides, hoping to share new perspectives through policy dialogue, thereby supplementing and expanding each side's development vision in the coming period.
Professor David Golan, President of Harvard Medical School, highly appreciated the cooperation programs with 10 medical and pharmaceutical universities in Vietnam, affirming that he will devote resources to continue promoting the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Harvard Medical School and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

Vietnam is one of the most successful economic transitions in the world.
At the April 1 discussion sessions on global economic prospects, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor chips, professors and experts presented a comprehensive overview of the development trends of major economies and new technologies.
The professors were all impressed by the success of the Vietnamese economy; they said that Vietnam is one of the most successful economies in the world in the past two decades.
Appreciating Vietnam's potential and opportunities in participating in global supply chains in emerging technology industries, experts have made many specific and practical recommendations for Vietnam to seize opportunities from new trends, especially attracting new investment sources that are shifting, building an ecosystem to develop emerging technologies, promoting human resource advantages in AI development, focusing on investing in digital infrastructure and renewable energy, etc.

In the exchange with experts, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and members of the Vietnamese delegation shared about the socio-economic development situation and Vietnam's development priorities in the coming period; exchanged frankly, constructively and openly with speakers about issues of mutual concern such as the position, role, opportunities and challenges of Vietnam in the context of the world economy in a period of profound transformation at present.
On April 2-3, 2024, VELP 2024 will continue to hold thematic sessions on cloud computing, digital environment, technology and global security challenges, transforming growth models and overcoming the middle-income trap./.
