Implementing his teachings, in every revolutionary period, our Party and State have always cared for, nurtured and placed their trust in the youth. Generations of Vietnamese youth have also continued the tradition, not afraid of difficulties and hardships, striving to study, work and contribute; always promoting the pioneering and volunteering role in socio-economic development and national defense.
“Training the next generation of revolutionaries is a very important and necessary task.”
President Ho Chi Minh was the one who founded, organized and trained the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Throughout his revolutionary activities, from before the founding of the Party until the time he wrote his historic Testament, he always paid special attention to generations of Vietnamese youth.
- Uncle Ho always loved, trusted and appreciated the role of youth union members.
President Ho Chi Minh was the one who soon realized the role of youth union members in the revolutionary cause of national liberation. Right in the work “The Verdict of the French Colonial Regime” published in 1925, he wrote: “Oh pitiful Indochina. You will die if your old youth do not soon revive” (1). He pointed out that: Youth is a young, healthy part, daring to think, daring to do, rich in will, determination and dreams; “Youth is the one who gives revolutionary strength to the old generation of youth, and at the same time is the one who is in charge of and guides the future generation of youth… Youth is the one who volunteers in the cause of economic and cultural development, in the cause of building socialism… Youth is the basic force in the army, police and militia…” (2).
At the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Union (March 1966), he believed: “With a generation of enthusiastic and resilient youth, we will certainly succeed in the cause of defending the North, liberating the South, and unifying the Fatherland. Therefore, I am very proud, happy, and feel young again, seeing the future of our nation as extremely solid and glorious.” (3)
Not only pointing out the great revolutionary ability of the youth, President Ho Chi Minh also pointed out their great potential in the cause of national construction and development. That is, "Young people are the future masters of the country. Indeed, whether the country is prosperous or declining, weak or strong depends largely on the youth" (4) and "Whether the Vietnamese mountains and rivers become beautiful or not, whether the Vietnamese people can step up to the stage of glory to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents or not, depends largely on your studies". (5)
In his Will, President Ho Chi Minh also praised: "Our youth union members are generally good, they are enthusiastic in everything they do, not afraid of difficulties, and have a spirit of progress" (6).
History has proven that in every revolutionary period of the nation, under the leadership and training of the Party and Uncle Ho, generations of Vietnamese youth union members have always upheld the spirit of patriotism, constantly strived, overcome all difficulties and challenges, excellently performed assigned tasks, and contributed greatly to the glorious victories of the nation. Many youth movements have become the pride of Vietnamese youth such as: "Three ready", "Five volunteers", "Three shock troops", "Youth start a business", "Youth protect the country", "Youth volunteer"...
- Care, educate and nurture young generations
Based on a comprehensive recognition and assessment of the role, position and revolutionary capacity of the youth, President Ho Chi Minh called upon, awakened, enlightened and encouraged the youth to participate in the revolution; trained, nurtured, assigned tasks and created conditions for them to study, work and contribute...
To bring the young generation to the revolution, as early as 1925, President Ho Chi Minh established the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association; published the Thanh Nien newspaper; opened political training classes, training many patriotic Vietnamese youths to become key cadres of the Party and the revolutionary movement of the whole country. In July 1926, he sent a letter to the Central Committee of the Soviet Union's Children and the representative of the French Communist Youth Union at the Communist Youth International, requesting help and sending a number of Vietnamese teenagers in Guangzhou to study in the Soviet Union, "to become true little Leninist soldiers", to become the nucleus of the Communist Youth Union later.
In particular, after the Party was founded, the issue of training young people received special attention from the Party.
As the leader of the nation, Uncle Ho often gave the union members and youth thoughtful and profound teachings: “Youth is an important part of the nation. When the nation is enslaved, the youth is also enslaved. When the nation is liberated, the youth is free. Therefore, the youth must enthusiastically participate in the nation's struggle...” (7). And “Our youth has great honor, but also great responsibility. To fulfill their responsibility, our youth must enhance the spirit of collective mastery, eliminate individualism, do not show off, do not be arrogant and complacent. We must be imbued with revolutionary ethics, that is, study, work, and live according to the ethics of socialist youth...”. (8)
He also emphasized: “… The task of the youth is not to ask what the country has given them. But they must ask themselves what they have done for the country? How can they benefit the country more? How much have they sacrificed and strived for the country's benefit?” (9); “Today we have gained independence and freedom, the youth are the true future masters of the country. To be worthy of the role of master, they must study” (10).
Before leaving, Uncle Ho did not forget to remind our Party about “cultivating the next generation of revolutionaries”. He affirmed: “Cultivating the next generation of revolutionaries is a very important and necessary task” (11). He pointed out that “The Party needs to take care of them, educate them in revolutionary ethics, and train them to become successors in building socialism who are both “red” and “expert”. (12)
Promoting the spirit of youth volunteers, worthy of his teachings
Following President Ho Chi Minh's advice, over the past 55 years, our Party has always identified youth as the masters of the country, the revolutionary shock force in the cause of industrialization and modernization.
Based on that viewpoint, the Party, the State, all levels, sectors and the whole society always pay special attention and care to the youth through strengthening education on ideals, revolutionary ethics, and cultural lifestyle; creating opportunities for all youth to study, constantly improving their qualifications, knowledge and skills. At the same time, building the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to be strong in politics, ideology and organization, truly a reliable reserve force of the Party, the political nucleus of the movement and youth organizations of Vietnam.
Thereby, a generation of Vietnamese youth has been formed with ethics, personality, knowledge, health, thinking and action, meeting the requirements of the new era, continuing the heroic tradition of the Party and the nation. The vast majority of young people strive to study and work to cultivate and improve their knowledge, expertise, skills, life and work skills in the context of globalization; actively participate in social activities and movements: "Youth volunteers", "Establishing a career, building a prosperous country", "Protecting the Fatherland, maintaining order and security", "Improving people's knowledge, nurturing young talents, developing culture and sports", "Lighting up the dreams of Vietnamese youth", "Creative youth", "Youth volunteers to protect the Fatherland" ...
However, there is still a segment of young people who lack ideals, have lost faith, live pragmatically, and are far from national cultural traditions... Reality requires the Party and the entire political system to fully recognize the urgency and importance of educating the young generation about revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyles, and to strengthen care, nurturing, and education of young people.
At the 12th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, term 2022-2027, the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized the requirement: "It is necessary to strengthen and do better the work of political education, revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyle for the young generation, so that the young generation, the future owners of our country, can truly be "both red and expert", as advised by beloved President Ho Chi Minh". The document of the 13th National Congress of the Party affirmed: "Strengthening the education of the young generation on revolutionary ideals, ethics, cultural lifestyle, enhancing patriotism, national pride, nurturing dreams, ambitions, aspirations to rise up; promoting the sense of responsibility towards the country and society".
The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress also stated: “Building an environment and conditions for studying, working, entertaining, and training to develop healthily, comprehensively, and harmoniously in terms of intelligence, physical strength, and aesthetic values. Motivating young people to be proactive in studying, working creatively, starting a business, and establishing a career; mastering modern scientific and technological knowledge, and promoting an important role in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland”.
It can be seen that, up to now, President Ho Chi Minh's views on nurturing the next generation of revolutionaries still have great value, and are the guiding principle for the entire Party and people in youth work. Uncle Ho's affection, concern, care and guidance for union members and young people are always a source of motivation, encouragement and motivation for the youth of the whole country to rise up and contribute, contributing to building an increasingly rich and beautiful Vietnam.
