Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat hopes that the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Australia (VASEA) will advise on science, technology and innovation policies for state agencies.

The message was shared by Minister Dat at a meeting with VASEA members within the framework of the Ministry of Science and Technology delegation's visit to Australia at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2023 (GEC) on September 17. VASEA was established at the end of 2022 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations and the visit to Australia by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in October 2022.

At the meeting, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat praised the contributions of Vietnamese intellectuals, scientists and experts living and working in Australia.

Sharing about the policy of attracting talent, Minister Dat said that Vietnam's consistent view on national development is based on science and technology, and the Vietnamese team of science and technology intellectuals is the core of this process.

He hopes that VASEA will do a better job in advising on science and technology policies, innovation, incentives, and attracting scientists for state agencies. At the meeting, VASEA members and Vietnamese businesses in Australia introduced ongoing research projects that have great potential for cooperation with Vietnam. Specifically, research on post-harvest technology, technology for extracting and applying biological compounds from nature, nanotechnology, water treatment membrane technology, microplastic removal technology, 5G-6G technology, research on antibiotic-resistant bacteria or building a set of structural standards, carbon emission statistics procedures in products...

Consul General Nguyen Dang Thang said that the potential to exploit the resources of Vietnamese intellectuals and experts in Australia is huge. He proposed to increase information about the country's development requirements to Vietnamese scientists working in Australia through the Office of Science and Technology in Canberra and Sydney.

On June 30, within the framework of the Innovation Partnership Day between the two countries, Australia announced an additional 17 million AUD funding for Vietnam's innovation development through the Aus4Innovation program, increasing the funding level from 13.45 million AUD (2018-2022) to 33.5 million AUD by 2028. The program supports Vietnam in promoting the development of emerging fields in technology and digital transformation, testing public-private partnership models; enhancing capacity in forecasting digital trends, formulating strategic scenarios, promoting commercialization of research results and developing innovation policies.
