Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro duo launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip

According to The Verge , in the initial stage, Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro are exclusively available in China before being released to the global market. Besides the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, they also come with a set of integrated artificial intelligence (AI) features as well as a new Android interface called HyperOS instead of MIUI that Xiaomi has just introduced.

The Xiaomi 14 has a 6.3-inch display and the Xiaomi 14 Pro has a 6.7-inch display, but they both offer a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and are both LTPO displays with an adaptive refresh rate of 1 - 120 Hz. The standard version has a flat screen and narrow bezels measuring 1.61 mm on three sides, while the bottom bezel is 1.71 mm thick.

As for the iPhone 14 Pro, the display area is flat but the bezels are curved around the edges and corners of the display. However, their overall shape is the same with a flat frame design along the edges.

Both products have displays that offer up to 3,000 nits of brightness.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a main camera lens with a variable aperture of 1,024 stops between the maximum aperture of f/1.4 and the minimum aperture of f/4.0, which is more flexible than the Xiaomi 13 Ultra which only has 2 stops. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro are equipped with a 50 MP main camera with Leica lens, a 50 MP 3x telephoto camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera.

This pair of Xiaomi products is equipped with HyperOS - a new interface system developed by Xiaomi based on Android. HyperOS is designed to run on a variety of devices such as mobile phones, computers, cars..., promising to bring all devices in Xiaomi's ecosystem together to work back and forth more easily. For example, users can use the phone's camera with a computer or access the phone's data from a tablet.

Powerful camera system with support from Leica lens

The Xiaomi 14 duo also get a big boost in on-device AI, which is a big feature on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This allows them to do some interesting things, like summarizing web pages and video conference recordings. Xiaomi is also working on more ambitious features, like creating AI portraits that put subjects in different scenes around the world. That’s going to be the bread and butter of AI features on phones in 2024, which is both useful and worrisome.

The Xiaomi devices are now up for pre-order with prices starting at 3,999 yuan ($599) for the Xiaomi 14 and 4,999 yuan ($799) for the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
