Built on the iPhone 14 platform, the iPhone 16e offers decent specs for 2025. It could be an ideal choice for users who don't have much experience with technology at a lower price than the high-end iPhone models. Here are the highlights that users may have missed in Apple's presentation.
Support visual intelligence
One of the strengths of the iPhone 16e is its ability to support Visual Intelligence. Although there is no camera control button like on the iPhone 16, users can still access this feature through the built-in Action button.
Many details related to iPhone 16e that many people do not know
Visual Intelligence lets users take photos and get information about objects around them, from checking their schedules to identifying trees or dog breeds in the park. It also integrates with Google and ChatGPT.
GPU in A18 chip
Another important detail is the GPU of the A18 chip in the iPhone 16e. Although the A18 chip is also present in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the A18 on the iPhone 16e only has 4 GPU cores, instead of 5 GPU cores like previous versions. Although this may not affect the daily usage experience much, users should consider it when comparing with other iPhone models.
Lack of ultra-wideband chips
The iPhone 16e doesn't support precise search with AirTags and the Find My app, which may be a disappointment for some users, though it's not surprising given Apple's efforts to cut costs. The lack of an ultra-wideband chip also means that smart locks or cars that use Apple's Smart Key feature won't be compatible.
No MagSafe
During the launch, Apple cleverly did not mention the word MagSafe when talking about the iPhone 16e's wireless charging capabilities. In fact, this phone does not have a built-in magnet system to support MagSafe charging, nor is it compatible with accessories that use this technology. This is a notable omission, especially since MagSafe has become popular since its debut on the iPhone 12.
Although it is a new product, the iPhone 16e lacks the MagSafe capability of the iPhone 12 model.
Additionally, the iPhone 16e also lacks the Dynamic Island feature found on high-end iPhone models. However, its absence on the iPhone 16e will not affect the end-user experience much.
iPhone 16e basic internal memory
Apple has decided to upgrade the base storage of the iPhone 16e to 128 GB instead of 64 GB like on the iPhone SE 3. This is reasonable when iOS 18 and other applications already take up a significant amount of space. In addition, the iPhone 16e also has a 512 GB version, attracting the attention of users who want to use it for a long time.
Note that, although the iPhone 16e starts at $599 (VND 15.3 million) in the US, in Vietnam and other regions, the amount is much higher due to taxes and exchange rates. According to information from Apple's online sales website in Vietnam, users can pre-order the iPhone 16e from February 28 and receive the goods on March 7 at prices of VND 16.99 million, VND 19.99 million and VND 25.99 million for the internal memory levels of 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB, respectively.
With these changes, the iPhone 16e promises to be an attractive product for consumers, especially those looking for a cheap smartphone that is still full of features.
