Traveling nearly 2,000 kilometers to worship the sacred mountain peak
Early in the morning of March 10, Ms. Pham Anh Hoa (Quang Ninh) and her family took a flight from Van Don Airport to Ho Chi Minh City. Then from Ho Chi Minh City, her family took a car to Tay Ninh city, nearly 100km away. To reach Ba Den mountain, it took her a total of nearly 6 hours, covering a distance of about 1,800km, but she was still very excited.

Visiting Ba Den Mountain on the occasion of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's Birthday, Ms. Hoa said: "Earlier this year, I missed my appointment to worship her, so I decided to arrange my work to visit Ba Den Mountain on the occasion of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's Birthday. I was really surprised to witness the solemn ceremony at Ba Temple and join the crowd to listen to Dharma talks and release flower lanterns on the mountain top in the magical light at night. It felt like I was lost in the land of Buddha, extremely peaceful and relaxing."
Like Ms. Hoa, many tourists choose Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh) as a spiritual destination to visit every year to worship, make pilgrimages and enjoy the sacred land on the "roof of the South".
Known as the most sacred mountain in the South, Ba Den Mountain is associated with the legend of Linh Son Thanh Mau, who is revered as Bodhisattva by the people of the South. Not to mention, this place also gathers a diverse system of pagodas, hermitages, caves, shrines, etc., further increasing the sacredness of Ba Mountain.
Art performances with the identity of the Southwest region
Therefore, if we need to decode the attractiveness of Tay Ninh tourism, then the sacredness is the first key that helps this holy land become the center of Southern tourism. However, if we only rely on the natural landscape and mysterious history, perhaps the number of visitors to Ba Den Mountain will not explode as in the past.
The "key" is a different tourism product.
The "key" to opening the door to welcome visitors to Ba Den Mountain is the Sun World Ba Den Mountain spiritual tourism complex with a series of tourism products, bringing a new look to attract visitors. At the top of the mountain, the most prominent is the majestic bronze statue of Buddha Tay Bo Da Son standing majestically in the sky - a symbol of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism. In the central area of the complex of spiritual architectural works on the top of Ba Den Mountain is the cluster of Bat Nha sutra pillars, including 5 black granite pillars with gold sand, carved with 12,000 Tibetan sutras gilded.
The Buddhist exhibition at the foot of the great Buddha statue is a must-see destination for believers when making a pilgrimage to Ba Mountain.
Right at the foot of the great Buddha statue is the first Buddhist exhibition area in Vietnam with hundreds of statues, paintings and reliefs made of many typical materials imbued with the style of Vietnamese Buddhism through the ages and modern video mapping technology about the movement of the universe in Buddhist concepts.
In particular, here, visitors can see with their own eyes the simulated versions of classic Buddhist artworks, including many famous Buddha statues of Vietnam and the world. The artworks are inspired by ancient artifacts in Buddhist architecture made of wood and stone dating from the 11th to 13th centuries and worship the Buddha's relics shining brightly in the majestic space.
"The psychology of tourists is to find differences: differences from where they live and differences between the places they visit, between different nationalities, different landscapes and different tourism products," said historian Duong Trung Quoc.
At Sun World Baden Mountain, the cultural identity and indigenous features of Tay Ninh land have been respectfully preserved and exploited, thereby bringing about clear effects in attracting tourists.
Rich in experience, diverse in culture
Mr. Le Thanh Son (Hanoi) chose Ba Den Mountain as his destination for April 30 this year and shared: "Previously, Tay Ninh was not on my list of tourist destinations, but when I learned about the Don Ca Tai Tu Art Festival, my friends and I decided to book tickets to Tay Ninh. Coming here, I realized that this land has changed a lot. Not only is it a spiritual destination, Tay Ninh is becoming a unique cultural tourist destination with many attractive experiences."
Ba Mountain is shimmering and magical at night.
Spiritual tourism is not the only reason why many tourists choose to come to Tay Ninh. Besides famous spiritual destinations such as Ba Den Mountain, Cao Dai Holy See or Go Ken Pagoda, Tay Ninh is also investing in developing cultural tourism with a series of attractive festival events such as the Spring Festival of Ba Mountain at the beginning of the year, vegetarian food festival, Quan The Am Bodhisattva festival, or the upcoming Ba Den festival which will be recognized as a national intangible heritage.
Possessing up to 8 intangible cultural heritages, Tay Ninh is one of the few localities with a unique cultural and spiritual life in the Southern region. The most well-known cultural heritages in Tay Ninh include the art of Don Ca Tai Tu, or the Chhay Dam drum dance, which is typical of Khmer culture, all of which are being nurtured and uniquely recreated in festivals at Ba Den Mountain. If exploited properly, these will be unique and special tourism products of Tay Ninh that visitors will have to come and experience.
Many large-scale entertainment, eco-tourism and resort projects in Tay Ninh will continue to be added, making Tay Ninh more and more attractive. Mr. Tran Anh Minh - Director of Tay Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: "We will continue to call for investment in projects such as theme parks or resorts to gradually form key tourism products to attract more and more visitors to Tay Ninh".
