Sell what customers need
For more than a month now, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tuan - Director of Hoi An DMC Tourism Company and his colleagues have been surveying many potential locations in the suburbs and neighboring localities of Hoi An to develop new programs and products in 2025.
Initially, some places were “selected” by Mr. Tuan for research and completion before being put into operation. “Normally, the life cycle of a tourism product only lasts about 3-5 years, so we must always upgrade, renew or develop alternative products, create appeal, attract visitors, and meet the requirements of partners when bringing visitors back,” Mr. Tuan shared.
As a unit specializing in serving European - Australian customers, therefore, the first element of every product and service that DMC aims for is the cultural, culinary, and ecological values associated with the life of the local community, thereby stimulating curiosity and exploration from tourists.
“During working sessions with partners, their first question is do you have anything new, so we always have new products and services ready to introduce. Of course, before selling to customers, we cannot announce them because tourism products are easily copied by other businesses,” Mr. Tuan added.
This company also affirms that customer needs will determine the type of product. Therefore, the company always determines to sell products that customers need or are new, not selling things that are available and everyone knows.
Quang Nam is a land with many tourism resources, especially cultural, ecological, landscape, rural and craft village values. However, due to limitations in infrastructure and services, exploitation is still quite limited.
Mr. Le Hoang Ha - Director of Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism Service Company Limited believes that with reasonable investment and "polishing", potentials will be turned into suitable tourism products that bring many different experiences to customers.
New, different products
Starting in 2025, Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism Service Company Limited will welcome guests from the SJourney train (a 5-star train with an 8-day, 7-night cross-Vietnam journey connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to explore the countryside and craft villages of the three localities of Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban, and Hoi An by Jeep.
This is also the third tour organized by this company since December last year. Starting from Tra Kieu station (Duy Xuyen), the group of tourists will experience a journey to explore the countryside and craft villages of Quang Nam such as Van Buong, Au Lac fine art woodworking facility (Go Noi, Dien Ban), Thanh Ha pottery village, visit the old town, take a boat on the Hoai River to see the city, release flower lanterns... The activities will take place within 10 hours, before returning the guests to Tra Kieu station so they can continue their journey across Vietnam.
Mr. Le Hoang Ha - Director of Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism Service Company Limited said that the idea of organizing tours to visit the countryside for guests had been in his mind for several years. However, it was not until early 2024 that Mr. Ha was able to officially realize it.
“Guests love this journey of discovery because they get to go through the countryside, see the village scenery and the lives of local people. This may be normal to us, but for some European tourists it is very strange and magical,” said Mr. Ha.
For many years, the story of upgrading and developing new tourism products has been raised, especially when heritage destinations are gradually becoming familiar and overloaded. However, the results have not been as expected.
According to Mr. Tran Van Khoa - Director of Jack Tran Tours, developing new products is a must to attract customers and maintain growth momentum.
“Quang Nam has a lot of room for tourism development, while southern localities such as Tam Ky and Nui Thanh are rich in tourism resources from rivers, islands to countryside, craft villages, historical relics, etc.
However, up to now, we seem to have not exploited anything, although the traffic infrastructure as well as the distance and geographical connection with Hoi An and Da Nang are convenient. I plan to survey this area after Tet to be able to form some suitable products and services to bring Hoi An visitors in" - Mr. Khoa informed.
Jack Tran Tours representative also said that in order to realize the goal of developing new products and services, promoting the growth of tourists, in addition to the determination of businesses, the strong support of the government and the tourism industry in the process of investing in completing infrastructure and services will play an important role. In particular, the upgrading and expansion of Chu Lai airport system and Ky Ha seaport will play a key role in attracting international tourist groups to move to the south of the province in the future.
