Quang Nam Newspaper recorded the sharing of visions and policies for tourism to change the face of rural areas, from international and domestic delegates attending the first International Conference on Rural Tourism of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) (held in mid-December at Vinpearl Nam Hoi An).
Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic - Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism): Consistently supporting sustainable tourism development
UN Tourism is pleased that over the years Vietnam has made strong commitments to empowering rural communities, a significant part of which is through tourism.
Tra Que Village (Quang Nam), Tan Hoa (Quang Binh) and Thai Hai (Thai Nguyen) are wonderful examples of Vietnam's efforts to improve people's lives; preserve the wonderful beauty of natural ecology as well as the system of indigenous cultural values.
And I believe that Vietnam in general, and Quang Nam in particular, have many other equally unique villages that are qualified to join the UN Tourism best village network in the future.
The tourism industry has the potential to open up huge employment opportunities for rural workers.
Tourism also provides opportunities for access to knowledge, self-esteem and improved living conditions for vulnerable groups in the region. UN Tourism is committed to continuing to be a steadfast partner in supporting Vietnam in developing rural tourism with a sustainable vision.
Through long-term monitoring, we have found that your rural areas have a rich agricultural product system, including many valuable specialties. There needs to be a technological solution to bring these unique products to the tourist market, both directly and online, so that the output of the products will be very open.
Currently, UN Tourism has a small-scale funding program to promote rural tourism by supporting tourism villages or rural tourism entities in the private sector, equipping them with marketing capacity, positioning on green development, circular economy... to adapt to global tourism trends if needed.
Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director of Vietnam National Tourism Administration: Projects and policies must be community-oriented.
Vietnam's rural tourism development policy in recent times has focused on honoring, promoting and preserving local culture, making the destination attractive, different and competitive.
How can policies help local communities preserve their traditional culture, protect the environment, create unique products, and have their own brand identity to develop responsible tourism while still maintaining their identity? Many localities are currently supporting people to build traditional houses. However, caution is needed in the implementation process, ensuring the originality of the values of traditional houses according to the identity of each region and each ethnic group.
In the coming time, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will focus on promoting connections and linkages between related entities because this is a very important issue. Priority will be given to connecting infrastructure, marketing markets, promoting tours, linking public and private sectors, especially linking rural destinations into value chains.
Another factor that policies and projects prioritize is to raise awareness of tourism development and tourism skills. We want to put the human factor at the center, the local community is the main driving force to preserve and promote values, and at the same time control the destination to harmonize interests and benefit local residents.
Mr. Ho Quang Buu - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee: Aiming to evaluate the best Quang Nam tourist villages of the year
Currently, Quang Nam has 128 locations surveyed and statistically recorded for rural agricultural tourism resources. We are promoting policy mechanisms, public-private partnership programs, and training programs for people to do tourism.
The fact that Tra Que Vegetable Village (Hoi An) won the Best Tourist Village Award in 2024 is an honor and pride for Quang Nam tourism. At the same time, it also demonstrates the efforts and creativity of the people of Tra Que Vegetable Village in achieving success and building this title.
Hopefully, not only 128 villages but also many more rural tourism models in Quang Nam will learn and share experiences with each other, in order to provide customers, travel partners, especially tourists coming to Quang Nam with the highest satisfaction with the indigenous values from nature and the community of people in the villages.
In addition, villages also need to apply digital transformation technology in rural tourism, how to build a sustainable tourism platform. Through this platform, people have the ability to cooperate with each other, one step is to evaluate Quang Nam tourist villages every year.
For example, in 2025, we can evaluate the 5 or 10 best tourist villages in Quang Nam. Next, we will have support, promotion, and even financial support for villages to develop sustainably, especially to direct villages towards green tourism models and sustainable tourism.
Mr. Vu Tuan Anh - Deputy General Director of Dr.SEM Consulting Company for Restructuring and Digital Transformation - Head of Green Tourism Project: It is necessary to build suitable rural tourism products to meet customer needs.
In developing rural tourism, the first necessary thing is the determination of leaders, the cooperation of people and tourism businesses.
Next, Quang Nam needs to actively support agricultural tourism entities to access the market, especially to have suitable tourism products.
If we want to have green tourism and green agriculture, we need to design agricultural tourism products first. It is simple, if we have customers but no green products or services to provide, it will be difficult for customers to experience and spend money.
Therefore, rural tourism entities need to change their mindset, serve customers as their relatives. When we grow vegetables, raise fish or create any product or service, we must first consider customers as family members. At that time, tourism products will not simply be a friendly green service. They will be products from the heart, or rather, green from the heart.
In particular, rural tourism is also the implementation of business and economic activities based on culture, nature and community benefits. Therefore, it requires vision and strength.
Tell the farmers of Quang Nam that we must have the vision and strength to build Quang Nam into a leading locality in green tourism and famous rural tourism in the world.
Then, there will be the story of methods and human resource training, then the way of farming, planting trees, including the way of raising livestock... Finally, helping villages create products, services and access markets, these are also 3 parts that go together harmoniously. In fact, through observation, I see that Quang Nam province is doing these 3 issues very well.
Mr. Andreas Paul Kung – Regional Director of Amega – Tui Blue Hotel (Nui Thanh): Rural tourism must preserve indigenous cultural values
The first problem of rural tourism development is to preserve the local features, or more precisely the cultural values typical of the locality, village and the lives of the people there.
We don't need to change too much. The most attractive element of a product or destination is its authenticity to its original core, which attracts tourists.
I think Quang Nam is doing well in this regard, please try to promote it further. Although I cannot have an overall view of your villages, but in the countryside and villages around Hoi An where I have had the opportunity to observe or experience, the most impressive thing is still the authentic values that are quite clear.
Of course, to enhance and further promote rural tourism, preserving cultural values, nature, and community identity, although important, is not enough. We need to promote more public-private cooperation between the state and businesses. In which, the role of the state is the decisive factor and businesses play a key role for rural tourism to succeed.
Although I have not been in Vietnam for long, I feel the sharing and companionship from government agencies, especially in Quang Nam. The recent success of rural tourism models such as Tra Que vegetable village is a great proof. From this foundation, the spread of rural tourism in Quang Nam in the coming time will certainly be more diverse and widespread.
