On May 16, the Investigation Police Agency of Giong Trom District (Ben Tre) announced that it had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Bui Quoc Huy (39 years old, residing in Tan Thanh Binh Commune, Mo Cay Bac District, Ben Tre) to investigate the act of robbery.
According to initial investigation, on the morning of May 13, Huy drove a motorbike from Mo Cay Bac district to Giong Trom district to find an acquaintance. When he arrived at Binh Thanh commune (Giong Trom district), he discovered a woman riding a motorbike wearing a gold necklace around her neck. Huy had the intention of snatching it so he followed her. When he reached a deserted road, Huy sped up, grabbed the necklace weighing 8.8 taels of 18K gold and fled towards Tien Giang.
After arriving in Tien Giang, Huy pawned the necklace for 5 million VND and spent it on personal expenses. After receiving the victim's report, the same afternoon, Giong Trom District Police determined that Huy was the culprit who robbed the necklace, so they arrested him and recovered the evidence.
Initially, Huy admitted to robbing the gold necklace. At the same time, he confessed that using similar methods, Huy had successfully carried out 17 other robberies in Ben Tre province.
