In a raid early Sunday morning, Thonglor district police busted a drug party that attracted hundreds of attendees, including three foreigners, in central Bangkok.
Colonel Pansa Amarapitak, Thonglor District Police Chief, said the operation was carried out after receiving a report on December 6 about an illegal party involving drugs in room 2001, 20th floor of a hotel in the North Klongtoey area of Wattana district.
Thonglor police coordinated with Police Department No. 5 and Force 191 to plan the raid. The operation was carried out at 1:30 a.m. on December 8, immediately after receiving confirmation that many people were gathering in the said room.
At the scene, police found hundreds of Thai and foreign men, all wearing the same underwear. Authorities seized a large amount of class 1 drugs (Ecstasy) and class 2 narcotics (Ketamine). All attendees were taken to Thonglor police station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 120 people attended the party, including many celebrities such as TV actors, former CEOs of famous cosmetic clinics, professors, doctors and people from the entertainment industry. Three foreign tourists, including one Vietnamese, and several women were also present at the party.
According to police investigations, the group had attended another party before gathering at the hotel. The event required pre-registration via a private chat group, with administrators carefully screening attendees. Attempts by Thonglor police to infiltrate the group were unsuccessful, leading to the decision to raid it directly.
Test results showed that 97 people tested positive for drugs. Police charged 31 people (30 men, 1 woman) with drug possession and another 66 people (65 men, 1 woman) with drug use. All suspects were over 20 years old and had voluntarily entered a rehabilitation program.
Those charged with drug use will be summoned to undergo mandatory drug rehabilitation as required by law on December 9, 2024. Meanwhile, suspects found in possession of drugs will remain in custody and will be brought to the Bangkok South District Court or the Bangkok South Criminal Court, depending on the specific charges and the amount of drugs involved.
