Protecting forests at the root in Thanh Son

As one of the districts rich in forest resources in the province, in recent years, Thanh Son district has proactively developed plans suitable to the characteristics of the forest management and protection (QL,BVR) situation, focusing on strengthening the local forest rangers (KLĐB) to protect the roots. Thanks to that, the forest is well protected and developed, contributing to the socio-economic development and protection of the ecological environment of the district.

For effective forest management and protection, Thanh Son District Forest Protection Department has proactively advised the Party Committee and the Government to comprehensively lead and direct the forestry sector and coordinated with relevant agencies, departments and branches to synchronously implement solutions for forest protection and development (FPD). Local Party Committees, authorities and forest owners have promoted their roles and responsibilities in leadership, direction and implementation to mobilize the strength of the entire political system and the entire population to participate in FPD. Forest rangers working in the area have helped the Party Committee and the Government carry out tasks, plans for forest management and protection, and plans for forest fire prevention and fighting (PFD) according to the "4 on-site" motto.

The work of preventing and combating illegal exploitation, deforestation, trading, transportation, business and processing of forest products is carried out regularly. In 2024, in addition to continuing to assign forest rangers to work in the commune area to advise the government on forest protection work at the root, the District Forest Protection Department has coordinated with functional agencies and local authorities to strengthen forest security inspections in communes with rich forest resources and key forests; implementing many solutions, from propaganda to strengthening inspection, control and strict handling of violators. Innovating the work of grasping the area, forms of information collection, methods of patrolling and inspecting resource-rich forest areas to promptly detect and prevent bad guys from sneaking into the forest to illegally exploit wood. Carrying out well the work of inspecting and supervising the exploitation of forest products by organizations and people in the area in accordance with regulations.

At the same time, the District closely coordinated with local authorities and functional agencies to mobilize people to denounce subjects who illegally exploit, cut down, buy, sell, transport, and trade forest products; organized raids and cleared illegal deforestation sites, and resolutely handled violations. By the end of November, the District Forest Protection Department had discovered and handled 18 cases against 18 subjects violating the Forestry Law, with a total revenue of over 60 million VND paid to the State budget. Along with that, local forest rangers coordinated with the People's Committees of communes, towns, and functional agencies to organize 15 propaganda conferences with the participation of 1,642 people and forest owners contracted to BVR; distributed 1,800 leaflets, repaired 6km of white fire-blocking runways, and well protected nearly 10,000 hectares of existing natural forests.

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, violations of the Forestry Law in Thanh Son district have significantly decreased in both the number of cases and the nature of violations compared to previous years. In the district, there are no "hot spots" of deforestation, illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of forest products. Violations have been detected early, the subjects have been quickly found, thereby having a deterrent effect and a great impact on legal education on forest protection in the locality.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Hung - Head of Thanh Son District Forest Protection Department said: In order to achieve good results in forest protection and development, in the coming time, the District Forest Protection Department will continue to strengthen propaganda, education, raise awareness and responsibility of people in forest management and protection; improve the capacity of forest rangers, and at the same time increase the number of forest rangers in charge of the commune. Implement well the monitoring of forest resource developments; do well the forest fire prevention and control work by checking and controlling slash-and-burn activities, increasing the distribution of forest fire warning bulletins to protect the existing forest area. Strengthen inspection and control in key areas where deforestation, illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of forest products often occur, detect and handle them strictly and promptly in accordance with the provisions of law.
