Truc Lam has won an Honorable Mention at the 2024 International Architecture Awards, a prestigious award organized by the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architectural Design and Urban Studies. This is a proud recognition of creative efforts in Vietnamese architectural design.

Not only that, Truc Lam space was also honored with the Green Good Design Green Architecture Award, honoring projects that apply sustainable design and aim for a green future.

These awards not only affirm the quality of architecture but also demonstrate the perfect combination of tradition and modernity in preserving culture.

The combination of tradition and modernity

According to Mr. Bui Ngoc Quang, Deputy Director in charge of the Museum of Ethnology, Truc Lam space is the result of a special public-private partnership project between the museum and Truc Lam Handicraft Company Limited. The design unit is the 1+1>2 Architectural Office, headed by famous architect Hoang Thuc Hao, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects.

This project stands out with the use of natural and highly recycled materials such as earth, bamboo, steel, and glass, especially the 40cm thick earthen wall system built using the traditional Ha Nhi wall technique. Combined with bamboo roofs and large glass doors, Truc Lam creates an open space, directly connecting with the landscape of ethnic houses in the museum grounds, giving visitors a lively experience and closeness to nature.

Ms. Vu Lien, Deputy Director of Truc Lam Company, shared that the idea of designing Truc Lam space comes from the desire to continue bringing visitors unique cultural experiences of ethnic minorities at the museum.

"When coming to the Museum of Ethnology, visitors can not only enjoy the architecture of ethnic houses, but can also deeply feel the unique cultural space through every detail in the restaurant design," said Ms. Lien.

Unique cultural space in the heart of the museum

Under the shade of an ancient banyan tree, Truc Lam space becomes a new cultural symbol at the Museum of Ethnology. The architecture of Truc Lam with transparent windows and glass walls allows visitors to admire the traditional houses of the surrounding ethnic minorities, creating a delicate and emotional spatial connection.

In addition to the impressive architecture, the interior of Truc Lam is also a notable highlight. Many sophisticated handicraft products from Truc Lam Company have been put into use, including a collection of Thai - Nghe An brocade embroidery paintings that are hundreds of years old. These details not only enhance the beauty of the space but also remind us of the richness and diversity of Vietnamese culture.

With its unique cultural, historical and architectural values, Truc Lam is not only a place to stop and enjoy cuisine but also a comprehensive cultural experience, where visitors can feel and appreciate the traditional cultural values of Vietnam.
