On December 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) announced a report on classroom hygiene and hand hygiene monitoring in 2024 at schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

The unit will monitor 95 schools, with 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms (3,037 classrooms, 298 IT rooms and Physics - Chemistry - Biology practice rooms) from September 23, 2024 to November 27, 2024.

HCDC report on classroom hygiene and hand hygiene monitoring in 2024 in schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Statistics for each classroom show that the number of classrooms that meet the requirements for lighting and air quality are above 70%. However, only 780 classrooms meet the requirements for noise, accounting for 23%. Thus, with the number of 3,355 classrooms monitored, there are more than 2,500 classrooms exceeding the threshold. According to HCDC, schools located near traffic routes or gyms near classrooms have noise levels higher than the permitted standard.

According to the report, most schools use air conditioners but do not have exhaust fans. Therefore, CO2 concentrations are higher than the allowable standard.

From the survey results, HCDC recommends that the departments of education and training, district and Thu Duc City health centers coordinate to monitor classroom hygiene indicators of schools annually.

"Schools need to increase lighting in classrooms that do not meet lighting requirements, increase air exchange in classrooms that do not meet CO2 concentration requirements, review and arrange enough hand washing taps according to regulations, soap and hand washing procedure charts," HCDC stated.

All schools have hand washing areas.

According to the survey results, most of the surveyed schools ensure hand washing facilities for students.

100% of schools have hand washing areas, 91% of schools meet the student/hand washing tap ratio, 100% of schools have clean water in hand washing areas, 98% of schools have soap or hand sanitizer in hand washing areas, 99% of schools have hand washing instruction boards in hand washing areas.

In addition, 98% of students were informed about proper hand washing, 97% of students agreed that regular hand washing with soap is very important to protect health, 91% of students agreed that the habit of hand washing with soap should be practiced from a young age...
