Lai Chau On the afternoon of April 21, two Mong boys cycling through Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh were taken by police to their family in Den Thang B village, Dao San commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province.

Mr. Bui Van Duy, a police officer of Mai Chau district, said that after a day of searching, the unit had verified the identities of the two children who had lost their way through the area. Accordingly, one child is named Lu A Sung, 15 years old, father is Lu A Khoa, mother is Sung Thi Di. The younger child is named Ly A Chu, 15 years old, father is Ly A Dia, mother is Vang Thi Sua. The parents of the two children are living in Den Thang B village, Dao San commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province.

The verified information is completely different from the initial account the two boys provided to Mai Chau district police on April 18.

Initially, when answering the Mai Chau police officers, Sung and Chu said they could not remember their full names or the address of the village or commune where they lived, only saying they were in Muong Cha (suspected to be Muong Cha district, Dien Bien province). The two boys are brothers with the same father but different mothers. Their father's name is Vu A Khu, Chu's mother is Giang Thi Giong, and Hinh's mother is Thao Thi Su. Since their father passed away and their mother went to work far away, the two brothers have been collecting scrap metal to make a living and living in a temporary tent on the side of the road. About two weeks ago, the boys cycled to Hanoi with the intention of finding their mother.

"Through information posted on social networks, newspapers and shared by the community, on the evening of April 19, we were able to contact the relatives of the two children in Dao San commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province," said Mr. Duy.

After verifying with local police, on the afternoon of April 21, Mr. Duy and an officer of Mai Chau district handed over Sung and Chu to their families.

Mr. Ly A Dia, 34 years old, father of Ly A Chu, went to the commune police station to claim his son. Mr. Dia said Chu is the eldest of four children, currently studying in grade 9, about 500 meters from home. Normally, Chu and his siblings go to school, while his parents go to the fields to work. Chu often skips school, and his family has reminded him many times but he does not listen. On March 29, Chu did not return home, but his family did not look for him because they thought he had gone to a friend's house to play.

"After a few days without seeing my son come back, I went looking for him. Later, I asked my uncle (Dia's younger brother) to ask around but he still couldn't be found. I thought my son had left home to work for hire so I stopped looking for him, because many children in the village the same age as him were the same," said Dia.

On April 18, an acquaintance read the search notice from the Mai Chau district police and informed the family. At that time, Mr. Dia learned that his son and his friend, Lu A Sung, who lived nearby, had left home for 21 days, about 500 km from their usual residence to the location where they were discovered.

The two bicycles Chu and Sung rode, Mr. Dia said, were not family property.

After finding his son, Mr. Dia thanked the Mai Chau district police officers and the community for helping Chu return home safely.

The head of Den Thang B village, Dao San commune, Phong Tho district, said that Ly A Chu and Lu A Sung are living with their parents in the village. Chu's family is poor, Sung's family is near-poor, both parents are farmers, not working far away.

"This is the first time Chu and Sung have left home for a long time. Before that, the two boys sometimes skipped school and wandered around. Their families warned them but they didn't listen," said the village chief.

This person also added that not only Sung and Chu, but also some children in the village dropped out of school and went to Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Bac Ninh to work as hired laborers.
