Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Khiem, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, recalls that this was a class of students who had just entered the school when Hanoi implemented social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new students had to study online at their place of residence.
Recently, less than a month before graduation, Typhoon Yagi - the strongest typhoon in 30 years - caused severe damage to the Northern region. A number of Polytechnic students and their families were affected by the storm and its aftermath.
For new engineers, this is the last course to train university-level engineers at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. From the next course, universities, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, will follow the 2018 Education Law, so the university system will only train at the bachelor's level.
Attending the graduation ceremony, each new bachelor and engineer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology has chosen their own path to develop their future, such as continuing to study at a higher level to become scientists; participating directly in the production process at enterprises to become experts, managers, or starting their own business...
“But no matter who you are, I always want you to be the best version of yourself! Wherever you are, whatever you do, you need to try your best, showing all the good qualities inherent in Polytechnic people," Associate Professor Tran Ngoc Khiem said.
On behalf of the new students, newly graduated engineers, valedictorian of the School of Mechanical Engineering (GPA 3.75/4.0), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Luu Van Duc gave a speech that brought tears to the teachers and students attending the ceremony.
At the beginning of his speech, Duc thanked his parents and family for always accompanying him on every journey, being a solid support, nurturing and educating their children to become good citizens of society.

Duc devoted all his emotions during the ceremony to send a message to his beloved mother.
"I am not someone who easily expresses my feelings through loving words. I can only express my feelings for my mother and family through my efforts and hard work. Our learning journey was probably the most difficult and arduous time in my mother's life.
When I entered university, my father could no longer accompany us, and so, with the responsibility of being both a father and a mother, despite her poor health, my mother did not allow herself a moment of rest, so that we could study like other friends of the same age. So that today, my sister and I - an engineer and a doctor who grew up on our father's thin shoulders and our mother's calloused hands - can be proud that we have continued our parents' unfinished dream - the dream of studying at university. And I also want to say: "We love you very much, Mom and Dad", Duc said emotionally.
Duc also did not forget to thank the teachers who accompanied and inspired the students.
"At the age of 18, we left our parents' arms and came to the bustling and dynamic capital to pursue our dreams. Immature and bewildered, we had to face completely new pressures and challenges. A timely piece of advice, an encouraging nod, or simply a trusting look from our teachers gave us the motivation to move forward. Our teachers treated us like younger siblings, like children in the family, helping us overcome the obstacles, challenges and failures of youth," Duc shared.
Duc also gave his fellow students at the graduation ceremony the wishes and promises of someone officially entering adulthood.
"Today, as we stand at the threshold of a new future, I want to emphasize that graduation is not just a celebration, but also a promise. A promise to ourselves, that we will never stop exploring and never stop learning. After today, each of us will go on a different path, and I hope that we will still keep the flame of enthusiasm, passion and ambition", Duc emphasized.
In this graduation ceremony, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has 4,337 students recognized as graduating from the regular university system. Of which, 1,847 students received engineering degrees; 2,490 students received bachelor's degrees; 443 students graduated with excellent grades; 1,362 students graduated with good grades; 2,373 students graduated with good grades. Thus, the rate of excellent and good graduates of this university is over 41%.
