Accordingly, on September 12, doctors from Binh Dan Hospital attended a conference on transferring robotic surgery techniques to hospitals in Malaysia.

The conference was attended by the President of the Malaysian Urological Society; urological plastic surgery experts from different provinces of Malaysia, urological plastic surgery experts from Australia, Japan, India, Kuwait, Indonesia...

On September 12-13, doctors from Binh Dan Hospital performed four urethroplasty surgeries at a hospital in Malaysia. The surgeries were posted online for viewers to watch, discuss, and ask questions.

Binh Dan Hospital doctor performed the third surgery on the Indonesian patient

Among the 4 surgeries, there was a male patient (35 years old, Indonesian) who suffered a traffic accident that caused a broken pelvis and severed urethra, and wanted to go to Malaysia for treatment. This case was considered difficult because he had undergone urethral reconstruction surgery twice in Indonesia but both failed. After removing the catheter, the patient was unable to urinate again and has had to wear a bladder catheter since 2019.

Doctors at Binh Dan Hospital operated on this case for 2 hours with specialized urethral surgery instruments brought from Vietnam. Because the patient had undergone 2 previous surgeries, there was a lot of very hard scar tissue left behind, and the inflammation and adhesions were difficult to separate.

The second case is a Malaysian patient who suffered a pelvic fracture in a traffic accident in 2009, causing a urethral rupture and had to have a bladder catheter placed under the skin above the pubic bone. The patient underwent urethral dilation in 2020 but failed, and has had to carry a bladder catheter placed under the skin until now.

The next two cases operated on by doctors at Binh Dan Hospital both had progressive urethral stricture, had their bladders opened to the skin, and had to wear bladder catheters for many years.

On September 14, doctors revisited surgeries, instructed on post-operative care and how to follow up with patients later.

In Vietnam, Binh Dan Hospital was the first unit to deploy robotic surgery for adults in 2016. After many years, the hospital has successfully performed nearly 2,000 cases, mainly patients with urinary tract cancer and digestive cancer.

Over the years, doctors from Binh Dan Hospital have visited many hospitals abroad to transfer robotic surgery methods to treat various diseases; affirming the role and position of Vietnamese medicine in the world.
