What Apple says when it continues to launch MacBook with 8 GB RAM

Apple recently introduced the 13-inch MacBook M3 with only 8GB of RAM as standard. If you want to upgrade to 16GB of RAM, you have to pay an additional $200. This has caused a lot of consumer backlash against this expensive laptop line. In response to the issue, Evan Buyze, a member of Apple's marketing team, commented on the company's decision to keep the RAM at 8GB on the MacBook.

Apple tin rằng việc tối ưu hóa cho phép máy MacBook với RAM 8 GB vẫn hoạt động mượt mà

Apple believes the optimization allows MacBooks with 8GB of RAM to still run smoothly.

According to BGR , Buyze says that 8GB of RAM is adequate for most computing tasks. If you’re just browsing the web, doing some streaming, or light photo editing, 8GB is perfectly fine. That may be true, but for a MacBook that’s marketed toward creative professionals, it’s not appropriate to configure it for only the most basic scenarios.

The representative said that their memory architecture will optimize performance in a way that is actually comparable to PC systems with more RAM. This is a point that Apple marketing director Bob Borchers emphasized in a YouTube interview with Lin Yi. "Comparing our memory to other systems' memory is really not comparable. Because of the fact that we use memory efficiently and we use memory compression. We also have a unified memory architecture, so 8GB of RAM on the MacBook Pro M3 is probably equivalent to 16GB on other systems. We know how to use it much more efficiently."

Borchers also wanted to emphasize that those who experience their systems will realize the real problem when using other systems with 8GB of RAM. This is because Apple has made efficient use of memory and the M3 systems are really special, able to meet the requirements of professionals and many others.

According to Borchers, Apple's soldering of RAM to the motherboard makes it impossible to upgrade after a period of use, so users need to spend more money to upgrade their memory to 16 GB RAM when buying the machine. Since Macs can last for a long time, spending an extra $200 to ensure the system can work well in the future is a wise investment, especially for those who intend to use it for 8-10 years.
