GĐXH - As the Lunar New Year approaches, the National Children's Hospital continues to receive many unfortunate cases of child poisoning.
During the days leading up to Tet, doctors at the Emergency and Poison Control Department of the National Children's Hospital said they had continuously received and treated many tragic cases of child poisoning. It is worth mentioning that a significant portion of these poisoning cases were due to the subjectivity, negligence, and carelessness of parents and guardians.
Specifically, they are: Two boys (8 years old and 10 years old, in Hoa Binh) had to be hospitalized due to rat poison poisoning. Through information from the family, it was learned that the two children had mistakenly eaten chicken eggs injected with rat poison that the family used to make rat traps. After 3-4 hours, both of them showed symptoms of dizziness and nausea and were taken to the provincial hospital by their family for examination, then the children were transferred to the National Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.
Here, doctors determined that the children were poisoned by rat poison containing Bromadiolone, a substance that causes prolonged blood clotting disorders. After 1 week of treatment and monitoring at the Emergency and Poison Control Department - National Children's Hospital, both children were stable and discharged from the hospital.
Notably, last week, the Emergency and Poison Control Department also received a cluster of cases including 5 children (aged 7-9 years old, in Tuyen Quang) hospitalized on the same day due to rat poison poisoning. It is known that one of these children picked up some red tubes of medicine in a plastic bag at school and shared them with his friends. After drinking, the children vomited, had stomachaches, headaches, and even had convulsions... They were transferred to Tuyen Quang Provincial General Hospital for treatment and then transferred to the National Children's Hospital.
Here, all children were diagnosed with fluoroacetate rat poison poisoning based on clinical and toxicology test results. The children were closely monitored and actively treated. Currently, the children's health is progressing well, but they still need to be closely monitored by doctors to prevent dangerous complications.
Two cases of poisoning due to mistakenly drinking oil for lighting an altar lamp, namely children DB (18 months old, Yen Bai) and GK (16 months old, Thai Nguyen) were hospitalized in a state of respiratory failure, severe lung damage, coma and impaired consciousness due to mistakenly drinking oil for lighting an altar lamp.
The family said both children mistakenly drank oil stored in bottles and jars that the family had refilled but left unlabeled and within reach of the children.
After the family discovered the incident, they immediately took the children to the nearest medical facility for first aid. The children were then intubated and transferred to the National Children's Hospital.
Here, the children were treated with ventilators to prevent respiratory failure, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and closely monitored for vital signs. After 5 days of intensive treatment, the condition of the 2 children has improved, however, they still need to be monitored for possible complications.
Doctors recommend that parents keep medicines and toxic chemicals out of reach of children; do not store chemicals in drinking water bottles or in brightly colored containers that attract children. In particular, there should always be someone to take care of and monitor children when they are playing.
