The Vietnam Pho Festival 2024 event taking place in Korea is not only an opportunity to promote Vietnamese pho, but also an opportunity for people of the two countries to better understand the cuisine and promote cultural exchange.

Many interesting people are dedicated to the development of Vietnamese culinary culture, especially pho.

When Pho is the Difference

Having had the opportunity to promote Vietnamese cuisine around the world, Vietnamese culinary artist Bui Thi Suong said that wherever she goes, she brings Vietnamese pho with her. Therefore, she is very happy about this journey to promote pho to Korea.

Talking about the similarities between Vietnamese and Korean cuisine, artist Bui Thi Suong easily listed dishes that people of the two countries love and have similarities in preparation and enjoyment.

"Korean cuisine has many similarities with Vietnamese cuisine, especially the broth dishes. Korean cuisine has noodles, spicy noodles, cold noodles... with broth made from stewed meats such as chicken, beef... Vietnamese people also like and use many broth dishes every day.

Pho alone makes a difference when the noodles are made from rice, and when poured into the broth, they still retain their chewy, elastic texture.

The spices are also grilled and carefully prepared, so the flavor is fragrant and strong. Especially, Vietnamese pho has the flavor of fish sauce, so it is unmistakable," Ms. Bui Thi Suong shared and explained why wherever there is pho, there are scenes of long lines of pho lovers waiting.

According to Ms. Suong, promoting cuisine needs to start with citizens, everyday people, and Koreans have done very well.

"I remember on a Korean airline flight, the flight attendant tried to convince passengers to try Korean mixed rice with a very cute reason "many generations of Koreans love and eat mixed rice". We can also promote pho through personal efforts, a cute story like that", Ms. Suong recounted the story.

Vietnamese salt but Korean seaweed

Sharing about what dishes he will bring to the Vietnam Pho Festival 2024 in Korea, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan Anh, head chef of Saigon - Morin Hotel (part of the Saigontourist Group system), said that the choice of dishes is based on the similarities between Vietnam and Korea.

"Our hotel offers Royal rice and Royal salt rice. It's also rice, with the same rustic origin but elaborately prepared. There is cultural exchange between Korea and Hue salt rice, and Korean seaweed is added," said Mr. Tuan Anh.

Also in the pho group, the head chef of Saigon - Morin Hotel said he will bring Hue beef noodle soup to Vietnam Pho Festival 2024.

"Because it is similar, the spicy yin and yang are like Korean spicy noodles. This is an additional dish, a Hue specialty to include in this pho event," the chef added.

Have you eaten Vietnamese pho?

Athlete Nguyen Thi Anh Vien shared: "I come from an athlete background, when competing I always want the world to know about Vietnamese people, know about Vietnamese talent, and this time it is Vietnamese cuisine, specifically Vietnamese pho. Therefore, when I meet international friends I often ask "have you eaten Vietnamese pho?".

As for me, I have to eat according to the menu from Monday to Saturday when I go to training, but Sunday is a day when I can eat freely, like "liberation", and on this day I often choose to eat pho because I crave it, this makes me feel very happy.

Last year, during the Pho Day event held in Japan, Pho Viet sent many hot bowls of pho to the Japanese people, and everyone who ate them praised it as delicious. This time, held in Korea, Anh Vien also hopes that the event will bring many hot bowls of pho to the Korean people."

Famous for his big appetite and "super big" mukbang performances, Nga Sumo was "challenged" to eat a giant bowl of pho and 1kg of beef ribs at a press conference.

"This is not a challenge program. When I come to pho, the national dish of Vietnam, I want to eat it to feel the special flavor of pho. That is the most important thing," Nga Sumo explained about the 30-minute deadline she set for herself to eat the giant bowl of pho.
