(HCMC) – In October 2024, ACB published the 2023 Sustainable Development Report (SDR) according to GRI Standards, becoming the first bank with 22 environmental and social indicators guaranteed by KPMG Auditing Company, an increase of 16 guaranteed indicators compared to 2022. Through the high number of guaranteed indicators, ACB demonstrates its implementation capacity and affirms its pioneering position in SDR activities in the banking industry. This not only increases the transparency of ACB's SDR Report but also provides shareholders, investors, customers and the community with a more complete and accurate view of ACB in strongly implementing its commitments related to Environment (E) - Society (S) - Governance (G).
A new point in ACB's 2023 PTBV Report is to demonstrate environmental indicators on guaranteed greenhouse gas emissions, recognizing the Bank's activities towards Vietnam's common Net Zero goal. In 2023, ACB's total emissions decreased by 9% compared to 2022, from 34,355 tons of CO2 to 31,238 tons of CO2 across all three emission ranges based on the international Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) guidelines, developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). This reduction is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions of an ACB employee decreasing from 2.63 tons of CO2 in 2022 to 2.29 tons of CO2.
ACB has taken many initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Saving paper, electricity and other inputs has been the most important, bringing about the greatest reduction in emissions; followed by the use of recycled carpets and cleaning up plastic waste, which have also contributed significantly. In addition, ACB continues to cooperate with DHL in the GoGreenPlus project. These efforts clearly demonstrate ACB's commitment to building a green and sustainable business and operating environment.
Providing green capital for businesses towards sustainable development
Following the Government's orientation on green growth 2021-2030, ACB is implementing business activities in line with the banking industry's sustainable development action program.
Along with the announcement of the Sustainable Finance Framework, which sets standards for operations in the green finance sector, at the end of September, ACB proactively increased the limit of the Green/Social credit package from VND2,000 billion to VND4,000 billion. Mr. Ngo Tan Long - Deputy General Director of ACB - said: "We are ready to accompany businesses in shifting towards sustainable development. In the long term, we will promote green capital according to ACB's ESG strategy". To date, ACB has disbursed 73% of this credit package.
At the event "Unblocking capital, welcoming opportunities" connecting banks and businesses organized by the State Bank in mid-October, Mr. Tu Tien Phat - General Director of ACB - said that ACB is currently spending about VND 5,000 billion to finance capital for small and medium enterprises in the area, meeting the needs of production - business and import-export. He added, "If the demand for capital loans of enterprises and business households increases in the last months of the year, ACB can increase the scale of the credit package to VND 10,000 billion or VND 20,000 billion. Not only providing cheap capital, the Bank also offers comprehensive financial solutions for customers such as unsecured loans, cash flow loans or solutions to meet the demand for green credit capital so that enterprises can meet the requirements of foreign partners".
Actively carry out social responsibility, creating value for the community
ACB has accompanied local and central agencies in social security activities to improve and enhance the quality of people's lives, such as donating VND 80 billion to support the program to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide launched by the Government; contributing VND 2.2 billion to join hands with the banking system to help people in some northern provinces affected by storms and floods; donating VND 10 billion to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to sponsor social security programs in Ho Chi Minh City and spending nearly VND 4 billion to sponsor educational activities and care for people in difficult circumstances through a series of community activities called "Journey I love life" in many localities across the country.
Through community support activities, ACB is contributing to creating sustainable social values under the letter “S” (Society) in the ESG (Environment – Society – Governance) sustainable development strategy as well as in its pioneering role in building a sustainable and responsible financial system. In 2023, ACB contributed VND 5,214 billion to the State budget, ranking in the Top 3 private banks and Top 8 private enterprises with the largest budget contributions of the year.
With impressive results from optimizing operational processes to minimize environmental impacts to ensuring transparency in corporate governance, and fully implementing social responsibility according to ESG, ACB was ranked in the Top 50 sustainable development enterprises in Vietnam (for the 3rd consecutive time) by Nhip Cau Dau Tu Magazine; received the Corporate Excellence Award - Outstanding Enterprise in Asia (for the 6th consecutive time) and the Inspirational Brand Award - Inspirational Brand (for the 5th consecutive time) by Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards.
