The final match of the 3-cushion carom tournament of Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF) - Min Table Cup 2024 took place this afternoon (October 11) with the competition between Tran Thanh Luc and Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu. This is a match worth watching, as both players are in the top of the 3-cushion carom billiards in Vietnam at the moment and are in good form.
Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu had a better start. Meanwhile, Tran Thanh Luc could not score any points after the first 3 rounds and was behind 0-10. It was not until the 4th round that the current world runner-up (2024 World Championship silver medal in Binh Thuan) had an answer with a series of 5. From that point on, Thanh Luc began to break through in terms of points, while Thanh Tu showed signs of slowing down.
Tran Thanh Luc broke the losing streak in the 2024 finals
In the 9th and 10th shots, Tran Thanh Luc scored 6 points in 2 consecutive shots. At this point, the player born in 1990 took the lead over Thanh Tu with a score of 24-15. Thanh Luc created a 10-point gap in the 11th shot (leading 27-17) and brought the match into the break.
After the break, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu started to speed up. He scored 8 points in the 14th turn, then scored 5 more points in the 15th turn to shorten the gap. After 18 turns, the gap was only 3 points, Thanh Luc led 36-33. However, Tran Thanh Luc showed his mettle when he quickly regained his spirit to continue to increase the gap, not giving his opponent a chance to take the lead. The runner-up of the 2024 World Championship led 39-34, 42-34, 45-35, 47-38 against Thanh Tu. In the end, Tran Thanh Luc defeated Thanh Tu with a score of 50-38, after 24 turns. Tran Thanh Luc convincingly won the 2024 HBSF 3-cushion carom championship, round 3, receiving a prize of 50 million VND.
With this victory, Tran Thanh Luc has broken the curse of losing in the finals in 2024. Since the beginning of the year, the 34-year-old player has finished second three times, respectively at the Asian arena, the World Championship and most recently at the HBSF Phuc Thinh Table tournament (losing to Tran Duc Minh).
