Runner-up Kim Duyen - Judge of Miss Supranational 2024: "I have no reason to be biased or oppress anyone"

Early morning of July 2 (Vietnam time), more than 60 contestants from countries and territories around the world officially entered the Miss Supranational 2024 Semi-final round taking place in Poland. At this contest, Lydie Vu - Vietnam's representative participated in the competition while Kim Duyen - 2nd Runner-up of Miss Supranational 2022 was invited by Mr. Gerhard Parzutka Von Lipinski - President of Miss Supranational and Mister Supranational to take on the position of judge for these two contests.

Dan Viet reporter had a conversation with runner-up Kim Duyen - the first Vietnamese beauty queen with an international title to become a judge of two prestigious beauty contests, Miss Supranational 2024 and Mister Supranational 2024.

What did runner-up Kim Duyen - Miss Supranational 2024 judge say about Lydie Vu's score after the semi-final night?

When taking on the role of judge of two international beauty contests, how did runner-up Kim Duyen prepare?

- For me, being a judge at two international beauty pageants is a special job that brings me honor and pride. As the first international beauty queen of Vietnam to take on the role of judge at a pageant under the Miss Grand Slam system, I know I need to prepare carefully in terms of luggage and mentality, and must fulfill my role well with a sense of responsibility and seriousness.

I spent time researching the contestants of the Miss Supranational and Mister Supranational contests to see what their profiles, projects, and outstanding images were like before meeting them directly at the contest. I think doing a good job as a judge, giving results after observing and weighing and measuring is the most important thing in my trip. As for the dresses and support team, I have prepared carefully, but that is my responsibility for my image and role.

After Lydie Vu's performance in the Miss Supranational 2024 Semi-final last night (July 1), how did runner-up Kim Duyen evaluate? Can you reveal how you scored Lydie Vu - Vietnam's representative in this contest?

- Today (July 2), I just participated in the judging round of the closed interview with the Miss Supranational contestants, then there is the final night of Miss Supranational 2024 taking place on July 6, I think I should not give an individual assessment or comment on any contestant at this time.

As a judge of Miss Supranational 2024, I follow the evaluation criteria set by the Organizing Committee of the contest and pay equal attention to all contestants. I believe that the other judges are also working with the same professionalism. With the prestige of the jury and the prestige of the Miss Supranational organization, Vietnamese contestants or contestants representing other countries will be evaluated fairly, according to their own abilities and brilliance in the contest.

In the Semi-Finals, the contestants delivered truly impressive and outstanding performances, showcasing the unique personalities and qualities of their respective countries. Anyone can win, so always try your best and believe in yourself.

The truth is, when accepting to be a judge for Miss Supranational 2024 and Mister Supranational 2024, is runner-up Kim Duyen afraid that the final results will be rumored to be biased towards the Vietnamese representative? On the other hand, if you receive comments saying that you are "not qualified enough" to judge at these two competitions, what will runner-up Kim Duyen say?

- When I accepted to be a judge, it means I have the obligation and responsibility to be fair to the contestants, to protect the reputation of the Miss Supranational organization and my own reputation. The judges have the same criteria and scale to evaluate the contestants. I have no reason to be biased or oppress anyone, especially the contestants who are participating in a contest that I have competed in and really love Miss Supranational - PV). Therefore, I am not afraid of being accused of being biased or, on the contrary, misjudging any contestant.

In my opinion, there are very few negative comments about me being a judge for the Miss Supranational and Mister Supranational 2024 pageants. The comments that my team and I observed on the posts on the pageant's Fanpage or my social media channels were mostly people supporting the first time an international beauty queen from Vietnam was a judge for a major pageant.

I think that Misses, Runners-up in particular and many women in general are often underestimated compared to their abilities, criticized that they are not “enough” to do this or that or to sit in a certain position. I don’t think there is any effective way to respond if someone intentionally wants to deny my efforts. No matter what, I still have to work seriously, strive for my own goals, and give my all with the opportunities and trust I receive. I hope that young girls or all women are like that, do not be afraid of words that deny our abilities, the journey and the results we receive are what really matter.

Will the judge, runner-up Kim Duyen, give Lydie Vu or will any contestant get a perfect score after the Miss Supranational 2024 Semi-final night?

- I would like to temporarily not share about my work as a judge at the present time. The two competitions are still taking place and I hope everyone will cheer for the contestants as well as wait for the results at the upcoming Miss Supranational 2024 Final.

As the runner-up of Miss Supranational 2022 - the highest achievement of a Vietnamese representative when participating in this beauty arena, she won the "Supra Model Asia" and "Best Interview" awards. Judge, runner-up Kim Duyen, what advice or "tips" do you have for Lydie Vu - Vietnam's representative in the upcoming final round - Miss Supranational 2024?

- Perhaps everyone will also sympathize with my role in the Miss Supranational 2024 contest as a judge, so I cannot share anything with any contestant. The achievements I have achieved at the Miss Supranational 2022 arena in the Top Model, Supra Chat or the overall 2nd Runner-up title are largely due to my efforts to reach excellence in a long journey. I believe that any girl who tries and has a journey to train herself for a big goal in life will be rewarded accordingly.

According to runner-up Kim Duyen, will the fact that Lydie Vu is currently "empty-handed" with the subsidiary awards in the Miss Supranational 2024 contest affect her ranking at the upcoming final night?

- I will not talk about any particular national representative but just share my thoughts on the secondary awards and the final ranking. There may be candidates who win many secondary awards and then achieve high rankings, but there is absolutely no rule that candidates with high rankings must receive secondary awards.

There may be contestants who do not win prizes in the sub-contests, but their efforts in each activity will be seen by the Organizing Committee and the judges. In the end, the high rankings in the Miss contest will be decided by the total score, I hope the audience will follow the contest and wait to see which girl will be crowned.

Who is the predicted ranking for the new Miss Supranational 2024?

- I think the beauty community can follow the Miss Supranational 2024 contest's ranking predictions on major beauty sites. As for me, I am a judge, so I will keep my own assessments and observations confidential.

I am not allowed to share and if I do, it may affect the feelings of beauty fans who are following the contest. I myself am also excitedly waiting to see who will be the new Miss Supranational 2024 and the new Mister Supranational 2024.
