When the fun isn't for everyone, 8 teams have left EURO 2024 after the group stage. Either because of bad luck or because they themselves didn't play well, the common denominator is elimination. Ranking the eliminated teams from best to worst.
8. Albania
This is only the second time Albania have played in a major tournament. Their performance in Group B, which included Spain, Italy and Croatia, was not bad. Two narrow defeats, a hard-fought draw and the fastest goal in EURO history. Perhaps they were more unlucky than bad.
7. Ukraine
A disappointing start and a disappointing end. But you have to see the efforts of the Ukrainian team in the next 2 matches - a comeback against Slovakia, a goalless draw with Belgium. They became the first team to be eliminated from the EURO with 4 points in hand, and unfortunately the remaining 3 opponents also had the same number of points.
6. Croatia
They also lost 0-3 in the opening match like Ukraine but they were very close to the ticket to the next round when leading Albania and Italy. But 2 goals conceded in the extra time made them wait in fragile hope and in the end there was no miracle.
Still persevering and enduring in difficult times, but the strength is no longer enough to maintain. The image of Luka Modric - the oldest player to score at EURO, is a representative of that.
5. Czech Republic
Coming to EURO 2024 with the expectation of having at least 1 win and competing for a ticket with the 3rd placed teams in other groups, but neither goal was achieved. With only 1 draw and finishing last in the group, the bravery and steadfastness of the Czech Republic players were not shown much in this year's tournament.
4. Poland
Robert Lewandowski’s goal in the 1-1 draw with France in the third round did not mean anything, as Poland were eliminated after two previous defeats. Most of the time the “White Eagles” played at EURO 2024 was unbelievably bland, slow and deadlocked.
So bland that it's questionable whether they should be allowed to compete in major tournaments. They failed to live up to the pressure.
3. Hungary
Apart from Croatia, Hungary have more points than the other eliminated teams. They are in the third-place group and had a chance to qualify, but the defeat to the Netherlands changed everything.
Expected to be the "dark horse" of the tournament, but Dominik Szoboszlai and his teammates performed below expectations, in which the win over Scotland was considered the lowest quality of the tournament.
2. Serbia
Looking at the Serbian squad, with Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic leading the way along with a number of other stars, they were considered a tough opponent in Group C. But in the end, these two stars did not score any goals, missed 3 big chances and had only 4 shots on target in total.
Coach Dragan Stojkovic's use of personnel is questioned, because the squad has plenty of talent but lacks ideas and is too slow to organize.
1. Scotland
When Scotland beat Spain in qualifying, everyone thought they could do something at EURO 2024. Even after a humiliating defeat to Germany in the opening match, there was hope they would do better in the next two games.
But it was only for a short time in the draw with Switzerland, holding the ball a lot against Hungary but completely harmless. 1 point is probably still lucky for them.
