The collective work stoppage of more than 5,000 workers of Viet Glory Company Limited (located in Dien Truong commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An) has entered its 6th day, despite the company's leadership's notice requesting them to return to work on October 6.
In the second announcement on October 5, the leader of Viet Glory Company Limited stated: In case the worker does not come to work, it will be considered free leave from October 2. After 5 days of free leave, the company will carry out the procedures according to the provisions in Point e, Clause 1, Article 36 of the Labor Code on the right of the employer to unilaterally terminate the labor contract.
According to Dan Tri reporters, on the morning of October 7, thousands of workers were present in front of the company gate but only a few entered the factory to work. Thousands of workers gathered in front of the factory area and stood on both sides of the road.
Previously, on October 5, the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee issued an official dispatch, assigning the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee to coordinate with the Provincial Labor Federation to direct relevant sectors, agencies, units and localities to coordinate and promptly and effectively resolve the above strike incident according to regulations, not allowing the phenomenon of strikes and work stoppages to spread, prolong or create complicated "hot spots" regarding security and order.
On the morning of October 7, the authorities continued to propagate and mobilize workers to return to work to ensure income and maintain normal business operations. At the beginning of the morning working hours, more than 1,500 company officials and workers had entered the factory.
Many workers said that their mass work stoppage was not to demand the company increase the basic salary.
"We understand that the current salary the company pays to employees is higher than the regional minimum wage as prescribed by the state, and we also sympathize with the company during this difficult period. However, employee allowances need to be improved, such as fuel allowances, meal allowances, seniority allowances... which are too low, but this is not specifically mentioned in the company's announcements.
We are supported with 20,000 VND for lunch, while the lowest average meal costs 25,000 VND," a worker told reporters.
Most workers believe that the seniority allowance of 60,000 VND/month/year of work (from the second year onwards) is unreasonable. According to workers, the seniority allowance must increase according to the working time, it cannot be equalized as it is now.
In addition, many people expressed frustration that workers are not respected by department and line managers and are often mentally abused.
Although the company has explained the process of establishing labor standards and the current labor standards applied here, however, workers believe that these standards are too high. In fact, workers can hardly meet the requirements while their working hours have to be extended.
Workers gathered in front of the company gate until about 8:30, then gradually dispersed.
"We want the company's leaders to issue a specific announcement on how to resolve the workers' petitions. Workers want to stay with the company for a long time, but their rights must be guaranteed and thoroughly resolved," said the worker.
Traffic police had to direct, regulate, and ensure traffic flow in front of Viet Glory Company Limited when thousands of workers left.
At about 9 o'clock, the workers had completely dispersed in front of the company gate.
Thus, since lunch on October 2, the incident of thousands of workers at Viet Glory Company Ltd. collectively stopping work has lasted for the 6th day.
