NDO - After 1 month of construction, the TBM 1 robot named "Than Toc" has dug 150m of the underground section of the Nhon-Hanoi metro. Currently, the entire body of the machine, which is more than 100m long, is located in a tunnel nearly 18m deep under Kim Ma street.
Nearly 20 meters underground, the first tunnel boring robot named "Than Toc" is still tirelessly drilling and has completed more than 150 meters of tunnel in Hanoi's urban railway project No. 3.
30 DAYS TBM 'SPEED' INTO S9 TUNNEL
On the morning of July 30, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board and contractors started drilling tunnels using TBM machines, constructing the first meters of the underground section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line.
The main contractor for the package is the Hyundai & Ghella Joint Venture (HGU). The contractor directly drilling the tunnel using TBM is FECON Joint Stock Company - a contractor with accumulated experience in the tunnel drilling process of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

At this time, the drill bit of the TBM1 robot named Than Toc is preparing to penetrate the tunnel wall at station S9. |

The pair of TBM machines are manufactured by Herrenkecht (Germany), are over 100m long and weigh about 850 tons. The two mining robots are placed on the third floor, which is also the bottom floor, about 20m from Kim Ma street in a vertical direction. |

After 1 month of operation, the entire body of TBM1 is completely buried deep in the tunnel. The representative of the construction unit informed that TBM1 has dug up to 150m of tunnel after 30 days of operation. |

After TBM Than Toc... opened the road, the first meters of metro tunnel were formed. |

Every 1.5m, the drill stops to install the lining. The lining panels are moved into place by a robotic arm. |

As the TBM drills, the tunnel lining will be installed. In parallel, other items of the project will also be completed in a rolling manner. |

Tunnel boring work is being carried out with caution and under strict supervision to ensure the safety of above-ground works and the proposed progress. |

Currently, the position of the TBM Speed drill bit is approaching 150m from the S9 tunnel wall. The TBM drill operates in a closed cycle, digging at a maximum speed of 60mm/minute. During the digging process, the machine will spray soil conditioning chemicals, also known as FOAM, in front of the cutting head to help soften the soil, prevent binding and support maintaining pressure balance at the digging face. |

Contractor staff and workers sprayed water to clean near the drill bit. |

There are warning signs in areas where installation is underway. |

After transporting the tunnel wall system to the installation location, the service vehicle system will have another task of receiving sludge for transport outside. |

The sludge, mainly clay, is filled into the vehicle compartments through a system of pipes before being transported away. |
ABSOLUTE SAFETY GUARANTEE DURING CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
Because construction must be carried out tens of meters underground, ensuring safety while working is always a top priority.

Because the construction work must be carried out tens of meters underground, ensuring safety while working is always a top priority. As soon as you step down to the second underground floor of the construction site, you will see a board recording the air quality parameters of that day. |

On the second floor, a series of signs, technical information boards, a list of nearly 40 engineers, and things to note when working in the tunnel are placed in a central location so that anyone can read them when needed. |

Self-rescue kits are also located along the work area. |

There are fire extinguishers along the entrance to the tunnel. |

Workers move along narrow corridors. They must strictly adhere to safety regulations, dress codes and many other specific requirements. |

In the tunnel section being excavated at the third underground level, an air circulation system is also being installed. The giant yellow duct above the ceiling will be connected throughout, allowing air to circulate. |

Temperature and pressure parameters inside the tunnel are always closely monitored. |
