Last weekend was a rare occasion in many years when there were 3 Vietnamese films leading the box office outside of the Lunar New Year.
According to statistics from The Box Office Vietnam, with a revenue of more than 24.5 billion VND in the last 3 days of the weekend (total revenue of 33 billion VND to date), "Getting Rich with Ghosts" leads the Vietnamese box office.
“Getting Rich with Ghosts” is directed by Nguyen Nhat Trung (Trung Lun), with the participation of the cast: Hoai Linh, Tuan Tran, Diep Bao Ngoc, Le Giang, Quang Minh… The film is the story of Lanh (played by Tuan Tran) - a young man who is a vagabond, rebellious, and involved in gambling and debt.

On the run from the aggressive gangsters and creditors, he accidentally "bumps" into the witch Na (Diep Bao Ngoc) and is asked by her to help her find the child she had to leave at birth. In return, she will use her spiritual power to help him "get rich"...
Compared to the September 2nd holiday in previous years, the revenue of “Get Rich with Ghosts” is very impressive. Released on September 2nd last year, “Anonymous” had a revenue of 18 billion VND and “Cù lao zombie” in 2022 only earned nearly 12.8 billion VND.
Ranked 2nd in the box office rankings last weekend was the movie “Hai Muoi”. This is a work that was released quite hastily, after only 1 month of introducing the project to the public, the media presence of this work was not too much. Revenue of more than 15.4 billion VND after the first weekend is a pretty good number for the return to cinema after 19 years of artist Quyen Linh.

Meanwhile, “Ma da” still maintained its steadfastness, earning more than 5.2 billion VND. The film’s revenue has reached 120 billion VND. If “Getting Rich with Ghosts” and “Hai Muoi” had not appeared, The Box Office Vietnam predicted that “Ma da” could have completely surpassed the revenue of “Dat Rung Phuong Nam” (140 billion VND). However, with the current situation, this film could end its life in theaters with a revenue of about 125 - 130 billion VND.
Based on this year's box office results, it can be seen that the 4-day September 2 holiday is a favorable time to release Vietnamese films, when people have a long holiday and Hollywood summer blockbusters have cooled down.
According to The Box Office Vietnam, there are not many blockbusters released from now until the end of September. This is a great opportunity for “Getting Rich with Ghosts”, “Hai Muoi” and “Ma da” to continue to accumulate revenue.
Given the current situation, the movie “Cam” will consider showing early/special screenings before the official opening date of September 27 because there are not many strong competitors outside the box office this month.
