(NLDO) - The project to build infrastructure and improve the environment of Tham Luong - Ben Cat canal and Nuoc Len canal passing through 7 districts is expected to be completed in 2026.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board - the investor, as of January 25, 2025, the total volume of the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project reached about 43.5%.
Of which, package XL-08 achieved the highest volume of 56.5%, followed by package XL-09 at 53.4%, package XL-07 at 49.6%, package XL-05 at 45.1%... Package XL-02 achieved the lowest volume of 28.1%, package XL-10 at 29.3%.
In 2024, the project disbursed 962.3 billion VND, reaching 76.4%, and in 2025 it is expected to disburse 3,567 billion VND.
According to the investor, there are still 25 cases affected in the project phase 1, have been compensated but have not yet handed over the land or have re-encroached on the area where compensation, support and resettlement have been carried out. Of which, Binh Thanh district has 1 case, Binh Tan district has 23 cases and Binh Chanh district has 1 case.

To ensure the project's progress, the Urban Infrastructure Project Management Board recommends that the People's Committees of localities direct relevant units to urgently develop a plan to reclaim the site to hand over to the construction unit in February 2025. Particularly for cases where compensation has not been received from people in Binh Tan district, it is proposed that Binh Tan district continue to mobilize people to receive compensation and hand over land to the project in February 2025.
In addition to the site clearance problem, the Infrastructure Project Management Board said that currently on the project route, there are many low-voltage and medium-voltage power grids, transformer stations, and telecommunication cables that affect the construction process and need to be relocated and rearranged to ensure safety during construction. This unit has proposed that power companies coordinate the relocation work to have a construction site.
Many traffic sections of the project are being implemented in 2025.
The Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project will start construction in February 2023, including construction of concrete embankments on both sides of the canal, construction of 7-12m wide roads, installation of drainage systems, lighting, green building, 19 drainage culverts and 12 boat docks... Expected to be completed on the occasion of April 30, 2025.
The entire canal is nearly 32km long, passing through 7 districts including District 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh district.
The project has a total investment of VND 9,030 billion, supported by VND 4,000 billion from the central budget, the rest from the Ho Chi Minh City budget. Completion time 2021-2026.
