From a production facility specializing in processing bamboo shoots, after nearly two decades of development, Kim Boi Joint Stock Company in Vai area, Ba Hang Doi town (Lac Thuy) has gradually affirmed its position in the province's processed agricultural products market. Not only outstanding for its quality, the company's bamboo shoot products are also a combination of modern knowledge and folk experience, traditional flavors and integration standards. The journey of building a 5-star OCOP product (a national-level OCOP product) is a clear demonstration of the company's efforts to innovate, create and aim for sustainable development.

Canned pickled bamboo shoots of Kim Boi Joint Stock Company (Lac Thuy) are produced in a closed process and are recognized as 5-star OCOP.

Established in 2007, Kim Boi Joint Stock Company focuses on developing products from fresh bamboo shoots, with large raw material areas in Kim Boi, Lac Thuy, and Da Bac districts. Products are manufactured in a closed process, strictly following food hygiene and safety standards. In particular, pre-cut pickled bamboo shoots and dried bamboo shoots are two main products, receiving good feedback and making an impression on domestic and foreign markets.


Mr. Ngo Duc Sinh, Director of Kim Boi Joint Stock Company, said: The special feature that makes Kim Boi bamboo shoots different is the production process that combines the traditional methods of the Muong people of Hoa Binh with modern technology. Bamboo shoots are harvested at the right time, cleaned, trimmed, shaped and salted, and naturally fermented for a specified period of time, without using any preservatives or chemicals. The finished pickled bamboo shoot product has a milky white color, a mild sour taste, is naturally crunchy and has a characteristic aroma, a delicate flavor that is hard to mistake.


Not as simple as pre-cut pickled bamboo shoots, the instant-cooked dried bamboo shoots product has a processing step of 7 steps, from soaking the bamboo shoots, trimming and shaping, soaking and rinsing, boiling, packing, sterilizing and cooling, and finally drying. Instant-cooked dried bamboo shoots are packed in 500g bags; soaked in a solution of boiled water, salt and citric acid before packaging, without using toxic preservatives, so they are very safe for the health of users.


In addition to focusing on quality, to meet the standards of national OCOP products, the company constantly improves packaging, using sterilized tin and zinc cans, helping the product to be preserved longer while still retaining its original flavor. The application of modern technology has completely overcome the limitations of the traditional bamboo shoot pickling method, creating a convenient product, suitable for today's dynamic lifestyle.


Currently, Kim Boi bamboo shoot products are available at many large supermarket chains such as Big C, AEON, Lotte, Winmart and are exported to markets in Japan, Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, etc. In addition, the company has expanded its product portfolio with dried bamboo shoots, shredded bamboo shoots, bamboo shoots, and even dried pho and pickles - many of which have achieved 4-star OCOP.

From orienting the development of stable raw material areas, guiding the completion of OCOP assessment dossiers, to supporting trade promotion... specialized agencies have played a bridging role, helping businesses overcome difficulties, access distribution channels and improve the competitiveness of local products. This is the foundation for Kim Boi bamboo shoot products to reach the title of national OCOP products" - Mr. Ngo Duc Sinh, Director of Kim Boi Joint Stock Company added.


With a systematic investment process and continuous quality improvement, in early 2025, Kim Boi Joint Stock Company's instant dried bamboo shoots and ready-to-cook pickled bamboo shoots were recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as national OCOP products. Previously, the products were granted ISO 22000-2018 certification; gold medal and title of safe quality food for community health; typical rural industrial products of Hoa Binh province; high-quality Vietnamese goods for 5 consecutive years (2018 - 2022).


The above achievements are the crystallization of the right development strategy, the passion for the hometown's agricultural products and the desire to bring the unique flavor of the mountains and forests of Hoa Binh to friends at home and abroad. The 2 bamboo shoot products of Kim Boi Joint Stock Company being recognized as 5-star OCOP are not only the pride of the enterprise, but also a mark contributing to enhancing the value of the province's agricultural products on the map of Vietnam's agriculture.
