Da Nang: Attracting visitors with Culinary Passport

If Christmas 2024 is considered the starting point for the "creative" project of Da Nang tourism (the model of Culinary Passport for tourists), then the upcoming April 30 holiday is the next opportunity to prove the value of this idea.

The Culinary Passport model has brought positive signals to Da Nang tourism.

Da Nang is promoting its local tourism brand through practical investments, including the Culinary Passport model.

Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, shared that the development of the Culinary Passport model is a service development idea from the Department's staff, in order to meet the requirements of creating new and more attractive values for the city's tourism.

From winter 2024 to Lunar New Year 2025, Da Nang has launched a large-scale communication and promotion campaign about local culinary values and related services.

Based on cooperation with local businesses and organizations, the Da Nang Department of Tourism has launched a new form with the expectation of attracting not only tourists but also local people to care about, preserve and develop culinary culture.

Visitors to Da Nang during the period from Christmas to Lunar New Year will receive a Culinary Passport form at the airport, port... to register for a journey to explore quality culinary destinations in the city.

These addresses have been carefully surveyed and selected by the Department of Tourism based on criteria such as food quality, attentive service, reasonable prices... creating the list of Passport "members".

Tourists and locals just need to follow this list to go to recognized culinary addresses, ensuring experiences at quality and attractive destinations. This is an effective form of promotion for restaurants and eateries, and at the same time a marketing opportunity for local cuisine.

Not stopping there, the Da Nang Department of Tourism also mobilized participating locations to support stamping on tourists' Culinary Passports as a proof of authenticity.

Once they have the actual stamps, visitors simply need to notify the Department of Tourism through contact points such as tourism promotion centers, websites, mobile applications, or right at the airport upon departure.

The number of stamps collected will correspond to a certain score coefficient, in exchange for attractive gratitude gifts from the Da Nang tourism industry.

Top scores in the Culinary Passport category will receive special rewards such as free accommodation at a 5-star hotel, or a sumptuous feast at a high-standard restaurant.

There are thousands of attractive gifts arranged according to this Passport model, with the active participation of tourism businesses.

Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh said that after the first peak campaign with tens of thousands of Culinary Passports issued, the Da Nang tourism industry received a lot of positive feedback, thanks and commitments to return from a large number of tourists.

More importantly, the image of Da Nang as a destination has clearly brightened, reflected in the increasing number of tourists, especially the rapid increase in spending on entertainment, culinary and recreational activities in Da Nang.

Looking forward to the upcoming April 30 holiday, Da Nang tourism industry is continuing to implement a series of stimulus programs to thank tourists with the desire to bring the most comfortable and memorable experiences.

Notable among them is the program “Enjoy with Da Nang”, which will be promoted throughout 2025. The Culinary Passport model will also be expanded on a larger scale, adding more quality locations and destinations to participate.

Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, shared that after more than 6 months of testing, the city's tourism industry now has a "longer list" of culinary addresses wishing to participate in the program.

The positive effects of the “eat as much as you want - bring gifts home” model have been spread by tourists, causing many local restaurants and eateries to actively improve quality, invest in services and focus on the real needs of tourists.

Not only that, many culinary project investors also proactively create unique gifts to highlight their locations, helping to surprise and delight visitors.

Therefore, gifts from the Culinary Passport are not only in the available catalog but also increasingly rich, diverse and creative.

From this perspective, Mr. Tan Van Vuong affirmed: “A new journey, larger in scale and more responsible for the Da Nang tourism industry is being opened and gradually completed. That is the system of criteria and standards needed to form a “list” of safe, friendly and quality destinations. That is also a program to mobilize expansion and improve the quality of units participating in the Culinary Passport, contributing to enriching the list of attractive destinations in Da Nang. And more than that, that is the basis for expanding and replicating this creative model not only in the inner city but also throughout the neighboring areas, promoting the effectiveness of tourism activities in the whole region”.
