20 years of growing a tree that is a 'warehouse' of vitamins, a farmer in Thai Binh earns 500 million every year

Báo Dân ViệtBáo Dân Việt05/08/2024

Before coming to mushroom growing, Mr. Hai used to be the Head of the Plant Seed Station of Dong Hung district. He often went to the Agricultural Genetics Institute to buy rice seeds to supply to farmers. Therefore, he saw the mushroom growing process there with his own eyes, learned and found it suitable for the climate of Thai Binh.

When the District Plant Breeding Station was dissolved, he learned more and found that mushrooms have high nutritional value, contribute to improving the health of users, and are easy to process into many delicious dishes. Raw materials for mushroom production are utilized locally such as straw, bagasse, sawdust, cotton waste, etc., ensuring the production of clean mushrooms, reducing costs, and contributing to environmental protection. Therefore, Mr. Hai invested in building a solid, airy mushroom house that meets technical standards.

Oyster mushrooms are the main crop on Mr. Vu Thanh Hai's farm in Phu Chau commune (Dong Hung, Thai Binh).

Mr. Hai shared: On an area of 1,000m2, on average I hang over 25,000 bags of oyster mushrooms, lingzhi mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms. There are times when the mushroom market is good and I hang up to nearly 50,000 bags. The process of producing mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms has many stages, each stage is important, starting from carefully selecting raw materials, processing clean raw materials; packing, sterilizing mushroom bags; cleaning the mushroom growing environment, keeping the humidity of the mushroom bags suitable for each type of mushroom; caring for them according to the weather...

As for raw materials, every rice harvest season, I hire people to buy straw, invest in a grinder, pack it and inoculate it myself. I buy the seed spawn from the Agricultural Genetics Institute to ensure quality. Mushrooms are very sensitive to environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, light, etc., so I always pay attention to monitoring and controlling unfavorable factors so that the mushrooms can grow and develop well, achieving high productivity and quality.

I have invested in a remote-controlled misting system via smartphone to reduce labor, ensure humidity, save water, and especially from a distance, I can also check humidity and activate the watering system for mushrooms.

On average, Mr. Hai harvests 15 - 20 tons of various types of mushrooms each year, of which oyster mushrooms are mainly sold fresh, and lingzhi and wood ear mushrooms are dried and semi-dried, with the highest yield being harvested from February to September every year. The finished mushrooms produced by the facility are always guaranteed to be delicious, clean, and safe, so there is no need to worry about output.

The market for Mr. Hai's finished mushrooms is in the province and the provinces and cities of Hanoi and Hung Yen; wholesale markets have customers coming to their homes to pick up, and there are also long-term customers who call to order, which he packs and ships by car. Each year, he earns 500 million VND from mushrooms, creating jobs for 11 workers with an income of 4.5 - 5 million VND/person/month.

Oyster mushrooms after harvest are carefully packed and delivered to customers.

Mr. Dang Tat Duc, Phu Chau commune said: I have worked here for many years, the work is light, suitable for my health is packing, caring for and harvesting mushrooms. In addition to the basic salary, I also have overtime pay, bonuses when completing assigned tasks well. With this job, I do not have to work far from home, and my income is also stable. Not only growing finished mushrooms, each year Mr. Hai also makes and sells tens of thousands of bags of mushroom spawn for families to buy and hang, at the same time instructing them on how to care for and harvest.

Phu Chau commune is striving to reach the advanced new rural area goal by the end of 2024. The commune has chosen Mr. Hai's mushroom products to build OCOP products.

Mr. Hai said: I am very happy to be chosen by the commune to develop OCOP products. I will try to apply modern science and technology to growing, producing quality mushroom products to soon reach 3, 4 star OCOP standards.
