2,156 billion VND to raise clearance of 11 road bridges in the Mekong Delta

On January 6, at the Mo Cay Bridge construction project area (Ben Tre), the Ministry of Transport coordinated with the People's Committee of Ben Tre province to organize the launching ceremony of the project to increase the clearance of road bridges crossing the national inland waterway - phase 1 (southern region).

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang, Deputy Minister of Transport, said that the investment in building 9 new bridges and upgrading and renovating 2 other bridges has the main purpose of increasing the clearance of bridges crossing national inland waterways to improve the transport infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta. Specifically, the 9 newly built bridges include: Moc Hoa Bridge in Long An; Sa Dec Bridge, Hong Ngu Bridge in Dong Thap; Mo Cay Bridge in Ben Tre; Dong Thuan Bridge, Dong Binh Bridge in Vinh Long; O Mon Bridge, Thoi Lai Bridge, Can Tho City; Vam Xang - Thi Doi Bridge in Kien Giang). Along with that, the upgrading and renovating of Giong Gang Bridge, Dong Thap and the dismantling of Mang Thit Bridge, Vinh Long.

According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, the project to increase the clearance of road bridges crossing the national inland waterways - phase 1 (southern region) is very special. Because it is an investment in road bridges but mainly serves waterway traffic. When the project is completed, the clearance of bridges under the project will ensure synchronous and safe traffic for people and vehicles, including cargo ships carrying 3 layers of containers or less.

This project has a total investment of nearly 2,156 billion VND from the state budget, to be completed in 2025.

Groundbreaking ceremony of the project to improve clearance of road bridges crossing the National Inland Waterways - Phase 1 (southern region)

The Waterway Project Management Board (assigned by the Ministry of Transport as the investor) said that the sub-projects at the 11 bridges mentioned above are divided into 2 bidding packages. Currently, bidding package No. 1 has completed all legal procedures, site clearance, and contractor selection to start construction of the Moc Hoa, Sa Dec, Hong Ngu, and Mo Cay bridge projects; renovating the Giong Gang bridge and dismantling the Mang Thit bridge. In particular, the sub-projects to build the Dong Thuan, Dong Binh, O Mon, Thoi Lai, and Vam Xang - Thi Doi bridges are in the process of selecting contractors, and are expected to implement package No. 2 in January 2024.
