It has been 4 days since the Lunar New Year holiday, but 154 students from all grades of Tan My satellite campus, Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1 (Ba Don town, Quang Binh) have not attended school because their parents objected to the transfer from the satellite campus to the main campus.
These two schools are about 2km apart.
Students do not go to school because it is far away.
According to many parents here, before Tet, the school announced that after Tet, students from Tan My branch will transfer to study at the main school. The school schedule will start from February 3 (January 6).
In recent days, many students have been taken by their parents to the Tan My satellite school, Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1. However, they did not come to study but just stood outside the gate because the school was closed.
The main school 2km away also had many empty seats because 154 students did not come to class.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia (68 years old, in Tan My residential group, Quang Phuc ward) said that she raised 2 grandchildren so that her children could go to sea. But in recent years, the fishing business has almost disappeared, so the children's parents have to work for hire. Because of their old age, she cannot take her grandchildren to school every day if they have to go to the main school, so in the past few days, she has let her 2 grandchildren stay home from school.
"If the school is degraded, it should be repaired and upgraded. I'm old and can't go far," said Ms. Nghia.

Many other parents said that Tan My people are typical of going to the sea. Parents often leave their children with their grandparents. So having their children go to school far away is a big obstacle. That is why parents oppose the change of school location.
Will consider building new satellite schools
According to Mr. Phan Tien Lam, principal of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, the closure of Tan My satellite school was carried out under the direction of Ba Don town and Quang Phuc ward. Because Tan My satellite school did not ensure safety for teaching and learning activities. All 6 classes with 154 students had to move to the main school to continue studying.
After that, the school also held 3 meetings to persuade parents to change location. However, since February 3rd, parents have not sent their children to study at the main school.
The leader of the People's Committee of Ba Don town said that the Tan My satellite school was built a long time ago and is degraded, and is located in a low-lying area. Recently, the town invited the Center for Construction Quality Inspection (under the Department of Construction) to inspect.
According to the inspection center's report, a structural part cannot meet the requirements of normal use, and a local dangerous situation appears.
Therefore, the town government had to temporarily close the Tan My satellite school.
"The town is balancing funds to rebuild this school because it cannot be repaired, but the time may last a whole year. Therefore, to ensure the safety of students and teachers, we hope that people will temporarily send their children to study at the main school," said the leader of Ba Don town.
