iOS 18 and macOS 15 will offer a host of new AI features like auto-generated emojis, suggested replies for emails and messages, and more, according to a report from Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman.
Accordingly, a significant portion of Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is expected to focus on AI features.
In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman explained that Apple’s AI strategy focuses on providing practical tools for users, with new features coming to core apps like Safari, Photos, and Notes.
According to Bloomberg , one of the new AI features on iOS 18 allows users to create emojis using artificial intelligence (AI).
"Apple is working on a feature that will allow you to quickly create custom emoji based on what you're texting. This means you could have a unique emoji for each message," Mark Gurman said.
Apple will almost certainly use AI to deliver new features including:
Photo editing: AI will help users edit and enhance photos more easily, bringing perfect photos without the need for professional editing skills.
Voice recording: AI will support voice recording and processing, improve sound quality and improve voice-related applications, helping users have a clearer sound experience.
Suggested Email and Message Replies: Provides automatic smart reply suggestions for emails and messages, saving users time.
Automated emojis: AI will generate new emojis based on message content, providing more expressive options beyond the existing catalog, making conversations more lively.
Improved Safari web search: Faster and more accurate thanks to advanced AI algorithms, helping users find information more effectively.
Spotlight Search: Spotlight will be improved to provide faster and more reliable search results.
Natural interactions with Siri: Siri will be able to interact more naturally and understand context better, providing a smarter user experience.
Siri Premium for Apple Watch: A premium version of Siri optimized for Apple Watch makes tasks more efficient on the go, enhancing Siri's assistance capabilities on wearables.
Smart summary: AI will summarize missed notifications, messages, websites, news articles, documents, notes, helping users quickly grasp important information without missing anything.
Xcode Developer Tools: New AI tools in Xcode will assist developers in building optimized apps on Apple platforms, facilitating the development of innovative apps.
AI features that require less processing power will run entirely on the device, but more demanding tools will operate through the cloud.
Apple will certainly tout the privacy benefits of this plan, and it’s reportedly considering marketing many of its new AI tools as “previews,” at least in beta versions of iOS 18 ahead of its official launch this fall.
iOS 18 is expected to be officially announced at the WWDC 2024 event taking place next June.
