According to a report from analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the foldable iPhone model will have an approximately 7.8-inch "no-crease" display on the inside and a 5.5-inch display on the outside.
It is known that the foldable iPhone will be 9 to 9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5 to 4.8mm thick when opened. The device will use a titanium aluminum shell with a hinge made of stainless steel and titanium aluminum. The back is a dual camera cluster and the front has only one camera.
Apple has reportedly been working on foldable iPhones for at least nine years, and even has ideas for iPhones with rollable displays. The key is to make these displays work and not break when dropped.
Apple was recently granted a patent called "Electronic Devices with Flexible Display Enclosures" that claims it has found a way to mix rigid and flexible areas for the display so it can self-heal.
According to the report, Apple will use a display that can extend the bending axis to facilitate bending without causing damage. Apple says the display can stretch across the entire device and it can be made from three elements. Two of the three elements are fixed, conventional displays, and the third screen will be a flexible part that connects together.
It is known that this flexible layer may include an elastic layer and this is the self-healing element. The elastic can stretch but can return to its original shape (similar to the mattress model used in the home).
With this technology, Apple can apply it to its devices, not just phones.
According to a report from analyst Jeff Pu, Apple will start mass production of foldable iPhones by the end of 2026.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the model will launch around late 2026, early 2027 with a selling price of more than 2,000 USD.
