In 2025, Petrovietnam will complete half a century of operation. With the foundation that has been painstakingly built and the initiative to take on new responsibilities in the energy transition, Petrovietnam is ready to enter its new Spring. The Vietnam Petroleum Association (VPA) is also ready with the mindset of Wisdom - Solidarity - Development, accompanying the Group on the new journey.
Half a century of development and proud achievements
2025 is a particularly important year for Petrovietnam, marking the Group's 50th anniversary of establishment and development. Petrovietnam's half-century milestone is not only an important milestone for the Group and the industry, but also associated with the changes of the country. This is a testament to a long journey of persistent development, overcoming all difficulties and challenges to become one of the country's leading economic groups. In 1975, immediately after the country's reunification, our Party and Government were determined to realize Uncle Ho's wish - exploiting oil and gas to develop the country's economy. At this time, the General Department of Oil and Gas of Vietnam (the predecessor of Petrovietnam) was established. This was a historic strategic step, marking the birth of the Vietnamese oil and gas industry. In the early years of its establishment, with limited facilities, technology and human resources, the General Department had to face countless difficulties. However, with high determination and strong support from the Party and State, the Oil and Gas industry has gradually overcome challenges, building a solid foundation for future development.

With the mission of contributing to ensuring national energy security and being an economic pillar in the construction and development of the country, after half a century, Petrovietnam has had a miraculous journey of construction and development. Petrovietnam has overcome countless difficulties and challenges, gone from "nothing" to "something", mastered the most advanced technology and science and built a complete and synchronous oil and gas industry system. This system includes all stages from searching, exploring, exploiting, transporting, processing, storing, distributing, providing services and importing and exporting petroleum products to producing electricity and fertilizers. In particular, the Group has mastered many advanced technologies in the field of oil and gas exploration and exploitation at great depths and in complex geological conditions. Over the past 5 decades, Petrovietnam has recorded many milestones of achievements and has also experienced many ups and downs. However, the "fire seekers" have steadfastly overcome all objective and internal crises. In all circumstances, Petrovietnam still fulfills its mission, contributing to ensuring the country's stability with the 5 words An: Energy security, Food security, Economic security, Sea and island security and Social security. These achievements contribute to the country's socio-economic development and affirm the important role of Petrovietnam in ensuring national energy security.
Since 1986, a particularly important milestone was marked when Bach Ho oil field on the continental shelf of Vietnam produced the first tons of commercial crude oil. This event opened a new era for the Vietnam Oil and Gas industry. Up to now, Petrovietnam has exploited 646 million tons of oil equivalent, an impressive figure demonstrating the Group's capacity and outstanding development in oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Along with achievements in the fields of gas industry, petrochemical refining, electricity and renewable energy, high-quality oil and gas technical services, Petrovietnam has affirmed its role as one of the important pillars of the country's economy. Petrovietnam contributes regularly to the country's GDP at a rate of 10-13%, while contributing to the State budget accounting for 9-11% of the total budget revenue. These figures not only reflect the scale of operations but also demonstrate the Group's production and business efficiency and its great contribution to the country's socio-economic development. In particular, Petrovietnam also undertakes an important mission in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands when constructing and operating offshore oil and gas projects. Large-scale offshore drilling rigs have become solid sovereignty markers in the country's waters. The modern seismic exploration fleet and the system of mine duty ships operating regularly not only serve the search, exploration and exploitation of oil and gas but also contribute positively to affirming and protecting the country's sovereignty over the sea and islands. The regular presence of offshore oil and gas projects, along with the activities of thousands of officers, engineers and workers, have made an important contribution to the implementation and protection of the country's sovereignty over the sea and islands.
The role of Vietnam Petroleum Association in the development journey
