" Sweet fruit" for the effort

At the end of July 2024, joy came to the coaches and martial arts lovers of the province when Tran Dinh Hoa, a 17-year-old boy from Quang Tri, excellently overcame many opponents to win the Gold Medal (HCV) in the youth competition, weight class 44-48 kg at the 5th Vietnam Young Talent Cup Martial Arts Championship - 2024 held in Hanoi.

This achievement is the sweet fruit of a long journey of nurturing and developing Dinh Hoa's love and talent for martial arts. Hoa shared: "This is the first time I have participated in a large-scale, high-quality martial arts tournament, gathering many young talents with thousands of viewers. Moreover, all matches of the tournament are broadcast live, so pressure is inevitable. However, with the encouragement and guidance of experienced people, such as Coach Phan Van Ngoc and Mr. Tran Van Nhat, I am ready to compete with the highest determination."

At the 5th Vietnam Young Talent Cup Martial Arts Championship, in every match from the knockout round to the final, Dinh Hoa started very confidently against his opponent. His forte is kicking with the advantage of being good with both feet, helping him score points more easily in the combat content. Although very young, Dinh Hoa is calm when competing and alert when striking. With reasonable tactics, always calm and thinking carefully in each strike, he had 3 convincing wins to win the gold medal in the 44-48 kg weight class, age group 16-17. This impressive achievement of the young man from Quang Tri has conquered the audience, helping him catch the attention of many Muay Thai coaches.

Growing up from Mai Han traditional martial arts classes, Dinh Hoa has overcome many difficulties, always trying his best to pursue his passion and achieve good results in big tournaments like today. “When I was 9 years old, seeing many people in the village studying Mai Han traditional martial arts in Gio Hai commune, I asked my parents to let me go to school. After studying here for 2 years, I transferred to practice at the Culture, Information and Sports Center of Gio Linh district. Ever since I was exposed to martial arts, I felt like I wanted to stick with it and dreamed of becoming a professional martial artist. Therefore, although the distance from home to Gio Linh town is quite far, I always try to go early and come back late to take advantage of the time to meet teachers and complete exercises,” Dinh Hoa recounted.

According to coach Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, who directly taught Dinh Hoa, from the first days of approaching traditional martial arts, this boy showed many talents. Born into a family with difficult circumstances, Dinh Hoa knew how to be diligent, persistent, and not afraid of hardship to learn new and good things of national martial arts. Hard work and constant effort have brought Dinh Hoa many high achievements at traditional martial arts competitions. Typically, in 2022, in his first participation in the Traditional Martial Arts Competition, the 8th Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival in 2021-2022, he won 2 Silver Medals (HCB) in the performance of martial arts. This is a strong source of encouragement for him to practice new events, aiming for higher goals...

Determined to pursue professional martial arts

Determined to pursue a career in martial arts, Dinh Hoa always wanted to be exposed to the essence of many different martial arts. Therefore, in recent years, he has practiced more traditional martial arts, got acquainted with Boxing and participated in many tournaments to compete, exchange and learn experiences.

To help Dinh Hoa develop his martial arts talent more comprehensively, Coach Thuy Tien continues to guide and support him in practicing combat competition. “When I switched to combat training, I felt very excited because I could apply the martial arts techniques to real combat; train my physical strength with more diverse exercises. More importantly, mastering combat competition skills and approaching Boxing gave me the opportunity to participate in many arenas to conquer glory,” Dinh Hoa shared.

In the past time, Dinh Hoa regularly practiced and learned more about fighting skills and Boxing at Quang Tri Sport Center. Although the distance to school was longer and the training conditions were more difficult, it still did not stop this young man's determination to pursue his passion. He continued to strive and assert himself in free martial arts tournaments nationwide with many gold medals. In 2022, he participated in the Free Martial Arts Tournament for Clubs in and outside the province in Quang Nam, winning 1 gold medal in the fighting competition. In 2023, Dinh Hoa continued to register to compete in this tournament and won 1 gold medal in the fighting competition.

At the 1st Hue City Traditional Martial Arts Club Open Tournament - 2024 taking place in July 2024, Dinh Hoa excellently won 1 gold medal in the Ngoc Tran Quyen performance and 1 gold medal in the 44-48 kg weight class.

Martial artists and coaches who have taught Dinh Hoa all commented that he possesses many elements of a martial arts talent. Mr. Phan Van Ngoc, martial arts coach of Quang Tri Sport Center said: In addition to diligence and perseverance, the most commendable thing about Dinh Hoa is his composure, confidence and intelligence when facing opponents. Along with that is his great effort and determination in training and competing to win.

Being young, this young man always desires to assert himself, outlines specific goals to strive for on the path of pursuing his passion for martial arts. “When taking Dinh Hoa to compete in youth tournaments, I always have a training plan, constantly check his physical strength; instill in him determination, discuss tactics carefully and advise him to uphold the spirit of effort, not to be afraid of opponents.

In addition, I also support accommodation and food for more systematic training, spending all my time equipping Dinh Hoa with full skills and courage in competition.

We are very happy that in just a short time, Dinh Hoa has confidently stepped onto the big stage and won the gold medal. This is an important foundation for him to aim for the future of becoming a professional boxer," Ngoc shared.
