Dien Bien’s strength is historical tourism, associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world”. There are many famous and attractive relics such as: Hill A1, De Castries bunker, Dien Bien Phu victory monument, Dien Bien Phu victory museum, Muong Phang campaign headquarters… attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

Dien Bien is the northernmost province of the country, with a natural area of over 9,562 km2, and a border of over 455 km adjacent to two neighboring countries, China and Laos. Dien Bien is also the only province in the Northwest region with an airport, which has just been upgraded to connect with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, so it has the advantage of attracting tourists. In addition to the main product of the Dien Bien Phu victory historical site, Dien Bien also has great potential for resort tourism, health care, with many hot mineral springs, homestays, eco-tourism, exploring nature and experiencing the identity of 19 ethnic groups such as Mong, Thai, Dao, Ha Nhi, Lao... Visitors to Dien Bien will experience wooden stilt houses, enjoy rice wine, special dishes of ethnic minorities, and see beautiful Thai girls in traditional costumes, with sparkling silver bracelets and necklaces, rhythmically and gracefully performing Thai dances and Xoe dances.

In 2023, Dien Bien will welcome one million tourists for the first time. Like Binh Thuan, Dien Bien hopes that the 2024 national tourism year, associated with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, will be a strong "push" to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector, so that Dien Bien is not only a historical city, but also a tourist center of the Northwest.

Writer Vu Hanh wrote: In our lives, each of us should create an opportunity to visit Dien Bien, visit the old battlefield, as a trip back to the source, to see more clearly the blood and bones of many heroic soldiers, along with the spirit and determination of talented leaders, and the torrent of sweat of generations of laborers serving the battlefield, which contributed to turning this place into a holy land of perseverance.
