Vietnam rises 11 places in happiness index

(LĐXH) - In recent years, Vietnam's happiness index ranking in the world has increased dramatically.


This not only demonstrates efforts to ensure human rights but also demonstrates the people's trust in the Party and State.

Happiness index increased 11 places

With the viewpoint that "people are the root", all policies and strategies must truly originate from the lives, aspirations, rights and legitimate interests of the people; taking the happiness and prosperity of the people as the goal to strive for.

Over the years, Vietnam has made constant efforts to ensure that all people can live in a happy society and have all aspects of human rights guaranteed.

Per capita income has increased rapidly over the years. The country's GDP in 2023 is estimated to increase by 5.05% compared to 2022, bringing the economic scale at current prices to an estimated VND 10,221.8 trillion, equivalent to USD 430 billion;

GDP per capita is estimated at 101.9 million VND/person, equivalent to 4,284 USD, an increase of 160 USD compared to 2022; average income per capita reaches 100 million VND/person/year.

From a country with a food shortage, Vietnam has now become a rice exporting powerhouse and is considered a bright spot in poverty reduction. Vietnam is the only country in Asia to implement a multidimensional, inclusive, and sustainable poverty reduction program. In 2023, the poverty rate will decrease to 2.9%. By the end of September 2024, the national poverty rate will be 1.93%, a decrease of 1%.

To reduce the economic burden on the people, Vietnam focuses on doing a good job of social support. In particular, in addition to regular and periodic support policies and guidelines, timely and extraordinary support programs in line with the practical situation have also played an important role in helping people overcome difficult circumstances such as natural disasters, floods, etc.

According to the Government's report, in the first 9 months of 2024, the whole country paid subsidies to 1,080,582 people with revolutionary contributions with an amount of about 20,700 billion VND.

Currently, the country provides social assistance to nearly 3.8 million people (about 3.38% of the population); supports monthly care costs for 389,000 households and individuals who receive care and support for social protection beneficiaries. The total budget for social assistance payments is about 32,000 billion VND/year.

Nationwide, there are more than 2.7 million elderly people receiving monthly pensions and social insurance benefits; more than 1.4 million people receiving monthly social benefits, and about 10,000 people being cared for at social assistance facilities;

95% of the elderly have health insurance cards, 32% have initial health monitoring and management records; 85% of people with disabilities in difficult circumstances receive social assistance, care and rehabilitation.

Also in the first 9 months of 2024, credit programs supported loans for over 1.8 million subjects, creating jobs for more than 533,000 workers. The labor and employment market continued to improve; the unemployment rate was 2.26%, down 0.02%, the underemployment rate among working age people was 1.99%, down 0.03%...

Well-implemented social security work is also a highlight contributing to bringing a happy life to the people such as: supporting and taking care of the health of the elderly, children, people with disabilities, war invalids, families of martyrs...

By the end of 2023, the whole country had established 425 social assistance facilities, including 195 public facilities and 230 non-public facilities to meet the needs of social assistance services of those in need of social assistance.

Policies on social insurance, health insurance, people's health care, clean water supply, electricity... are focused on implementation with positive results.

As of June 1, 2024, the number of social insurance participants nationwide reached 17.414 million, an increase of 1.67% over the same period in 2023; the number of unemployment insurance participants reached 14.253 million, an increase of 1.67% over the same period in 2023; the number of health insurance participants reached 90.614 million, an increase of 0.02% over the same period in 2023.

Vietnam has 47 central hospitals, 419 provincial hospitals, 684 district hospitals and 100% of communes have medical centers to meet people's health care needs.

The universal health coverage index is higher than the regional and world average. Average life expectancy is also increasing rapidly, reaching 73.7 years in 2023, ranked among the highest among countries with similar income levels.

With efforts for humanity, Vietnam's happiness index has increased 11 places.

Specifically, according to the 2024 World Happiness Report, Vietnam ranked 54th, a positive improvement compared to 65th place in 2023. In Asia, Vietnam ranked 6th. At the end of October 2024, Vietnam was the only Asian country invited by the G7 countries to conduct a typical report on implementing social policies and promoting the role of people with disabilities and disadvantaged people in today's society.

Efforts to promote and ensure human rights

In Vietnam, people are free to do anything that is not prohibited by law. Freedom of speech, freedom of belief, religion, freedom of the Internet, etc. are always respected and protected by law.

Every citizen has the right to follow or not to follow any religion; religious life is extremely diverse and rich. The State creates all conditions for religious beliefs to operate and develop.

The total number of religious followers is about 26.5 million, accounting for 27% of the population; over 54,000 religious dignitaries; over 135,000 officials; more than 29,000 places of worship; thousands of points and groups are granted registration for concentrated religious activities.

As of early 2024, there were 78.44 million internet users; 72.70 million social network users, equivalent to 73.3% of the total population; 168.5 million mobile connections, equivalent to 169.8% of the total population.

The State creates conditions for individuals and organizations to freely enrich themselves legitimately; to participate in contributing opinions to the process of formulating policies, laws and developing the country, regardless of whether the citizen is at home or abroad.

All citizens benefit from education policies. As of October 2023, the rate of people reaching the literacy level 1 and literacy level 2 standards at the age of 15 reached 98.55% and 60 reached 96.70%. The developed national education system, ranked 64/127 countries in the world by UNESCO, ensures that all citizens enjoy a fair and progressive education.

According to the UNDP Human Development Report, Vietnam's Human Development Index (HDI) in 2024 increased by 8 places compared to the previous period, from 115 to 107/193 countries;

Vietnam's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2024 increased by 1 rank compared to 2023, ranking 54/166. Vietnam is currently a member and actively participates in the activities of the United Nations Human Rights Council, term 2023 - 2025.

According to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report (June 2023), Vietnam has increased 11 places in gender equality compared to 2022, from 83rd to 72nd out of 146 countries participating in the ranking.

In particular, in the political field, Vietnam increased 17 places compared to 2022, from 106th to 89th, in which the proportion of women in politics ranked 53rd.

In the National Report on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights in Vietnam under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV of the United Nations Human Rights Council, published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it shows that from 2019 to the end of November 2023, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed 44 laws, including many important legal documents related to human rights and civil rights, specifying the provisions of the 2013 Constitution, ensuring compatibility with international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.

Vietnam has actively included human rights content in the national education system's curriculum, setting a goal that by 2025, all educational and training institutions at all levels will organize human rights education for learners. Vietnam has participated in 7/9 basic international treaties on human rights.

Assessing Vietnam's achievements in ensuring human rights, Professor Carl Thayer of the Australian Defense Force Academy, University of New South Wales said that ensuring human rights in Vietnam is clearly demonstrated in aspects such as ensuring gender equality, sustainable development goals, public health, education, treatment of ethnic minorities, LGBT community...
