Ton Duc Thang University ranked 86th in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.

In the ranking announced on June 22, there were 6 Vietnamese higher education institutions present. Ton Duc Thang University entered the top 100 in Asia for the second consecutive time but dropped 7 places compared to last year.

Hue University is a new name in this year's ranking with position 601+. Meanwhile, Danang University, which was reported last year, did not appear in the 2023 ranking.

The remaining four schools are all familiar. Duy Tan University holds the 106th position, down 15 places, out of the top 100. Hanoi National University is ranked 351-400, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology are ranked 501-600.

THE's Asian university rankings criteria fall into five groups: teaching (25%), research (30%), citations (30%), income from knowledge and technology transfer (7.5%) and international outlook (7.5%).

With this assessment, schools with strengths in research will have an advantage. Ton Duc Thang University scored 99.2/100 points in the citation criteria, while Duy Tan University achieved absolute scores. However, these two schools scored quite low in the teaching group, only 16-17.

Topping the teaching index group is Hanoi National University with 21.7 points. Hanoi University of Science and Technology leads the income group from knowledge and technology transfer with 43.5 points.

This year's Asia's best university rankings feature 669 schools from 31 countries and territories. China's Tsinghua and Peking Universities are in the top two positions for the fourth consecutive year. In the top 10 alone, China has four representatives, with the rest coming from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. Japan is also the country with the most representatives in the rankings with 117 schools.

THE is one of the three most prestigious and influential university ranking organizations in the world, along with QS and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China). This organization began ranking world universities in 2004.
