(QBĐT) - Since the country's birth, Quang Binh has always been closely associated with the historical imprints of the Van Lang-Au Lac state, contributing to the creation of ancient Vietnamese civilization. Promoting that spirit, through many ups and downs, the people of Quang Binh have remained resilient, self-reliant, and self-reliant, contributing to the cause of protecting and building the country.

Traces of ancient Vietnamese civilization

According to the book “Quang Binh Geography”, during the Van Lang-Au Lac period, Quang Binh belonged to the Viet Thuong department, one of the 15 departments of the Van Lang state under the Hung Kings. This was a land with favorable conditions for ancient residents to live, develop wet rice agriculture and handicrafts. Precious archaeological artifacts, currently kept at the Provincial Museum, represent the Dong Son culture in Quang Binh. These artifacts were found in many locations along the Quang Binh strip of land, proving that the ancient Vietnamese people here had a brilliant civilization, not inferior to the Red River or Ma River deltas.

Over thousands of years, relics such as bronze drums and bronze vases remain intact with unique patterns, demonstrating the prosperity and resilient spirit of ancient residents.

In addition, discoveries from archaeological sites such as Bau Tro also show that Quang Binh residents had a rich cultural life early on. They knew how to make pottery, use ground stone tools and worship their ancestors. These evidences have confirmed the remarkable development of ancient residents and demonstrated that since the time of the Hung Kings, Quang Binh has been an indispensable part of the flow of national history.

Dr. Nguyen Khac Thai commented: “Quang Binh in the Van Lang period was not only an important geographical area but also played a strategic role in protecting the southern border of the country. This land was considered a solid shield, preventing the invasion of forces from the South, contributing to maintaining the stability of the Van Lang state. At the same time, this was also the starting point for the exchange, enrichment and spread of Vietnamese culture to the South, laying the foundation for the long-term development of the nation.”

Promoting Hung King spirit

According to Master Tran Thi Tuyet Nhung, lecturer at Quang Binh University, the land of "Lao wind and white sand" Quang Binh has long left a strong mark in the nation's history with its patriotic, loyal and indomitable spirit. From the perspective of the Hung King spirit, the people of Quang Binh through the ages have always clearly demonstrated their will to be self-reliant, self-reliant and ready to sacrifice for their homeland and country. During the feudal period, Quang Binh was an important borderland, associated with the expansion of Dai Viet's territory. During the Trinh-Nguyen conflict, the people of Quang Binh both reclaimed land and steadfastly defended their land, contributing to the stability and expansion of the territory.

“During the feudal period, Quang Binh was a remote borderland and a place where the people’s steadfast and indomitable spirit was nurtured. For hundreds of years, Quang Binh residents have always demonstrated their will to be self-reliant and self-reliant, protecting their homeland during turbulent periods of history,” Master Tran Thi Tuyet Nhung affirmed.

During the resistance war against the French, Quang Binh people not only participated in the fight but also contributed human and material resources to the revolution. During the anti-American period, Quang Binh became the “fire line of the North”, an important area on the vital route to support the battlefield in the South. Despite having to endure countless bombs and bullets from the invading enemy, the people of Quang Binh still steadfastly held on, produced and fought. Historical sites such as Long Dai ferry, Tam Thanh Nien Xung Phong cave, Road 20 Quyet Thang… have become symbols of the indomitable spirit, fighting and defeating the enemy of the people and army of the “Hai Gioi” homeland.

Today, the Hung King spirit is still strongly expressed in the construction and development of the homeland. Quang Binh people are exploiting the advantages of the sea, forests and tourism to develop the economy. Fishing and aquaculture are increasingly modern. Sea tourism and cave exploration tourism are helping Quang Binh become a bright spot on the Vietnam tourism map. The young generation of Quang Binh today is also contributing to making the homeland famous in many fields from science, technology to culture, sports... Young talents in fields such as education, scientific research, sports, and arts continuously reap proud achievements, continuing to affirm the studious, creative and resilient spirit of this land.

Let the source flow forever

Every year on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, the people of Thuan Bai and Tho Ngoa villages (Quang Thuan ward, Ba Don town) eagerly prepare for the traditional village festival. For the people of this land with a tradition of nearly 500 years, the village festival is an occasion to pray for favorable weather, good crops and to perform rituals to honor the merits of the Hung Kings. This is not only an occasion for people to show their respect but also an opportunity for the younger generation to understand more about history and learn about the noble moral values of the nation.

The Hung Kings' Commemoration Day on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month is an occasion for every Vietnamese person to honor historical traditions and express their deep gratitude to the Hung Kings. Cultural activities and festivals take place across the country, to remind people of their roots and to arouse the nation's will to rise up.

With the profound meaning of these traditional festivals, maintaining and promoting national cultural values will contribute to the development of the homeland. In order for the Hung King spirit to flow forever, along with sustainable economic development, preserving and promoting national cultural identity needs to be focused on and become an important task in the construction and development of the homeland. Cultural and religious activities should not stop at worship rituals but should be combined with educational programs, cultural and artistic tourism, in order to create sustainable economic values, while raising awareness of the role of culture in contemporary life. Quang Binh, with its rich cultural tourism potential, can further exploit these values to attract tourists, generate revenue from cultural tourism, contribute to local economic development while still preserving priceless heritages.

From the time of Van Lang-Au Lac until now, Quang Binh has always been a land leaning on the heroic flow of history, carrying within it a tradition of patriotism, self-reliance and self-strengthening. Thanks to that spirit, the people of Quang Binh have overcome many ups and downs, hardships to build and develop their homeland.
