Ensuring safety and health at work is a fundamental right of workers. Since 2003, the International Labor Organization (ILO) has chosen April 28 every year as the World Day for Safety and Health at Work to highlight the importance of preventing occupational accidents and occupational diseases globally.

According to information from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, there are currently 2,635 enterprises and cooperatives operating in the province, employing 72,050 workers. Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards on occupational health and safety is very important, thereby creating better working conditions and environments and improving the health of workers.

Currently, the branch manages 366 workers, of which 90% work directly in arduous conditions, exposed to noise and dust, requiring the health of railway staff, especially train drivers, assistant train drivers, switchmen, etc. to be guaranteed.

Realizing that, in recent years, the Railway Transport Branch Trade Union has consulted with the Branch Board of Directors to develop labor regulations and collective labor agreements, including contents on labor safety and hygiene. Along with that, launching emulation to implement "green - clean - beautiful", ensuring labor safety and hygiene through organizing propaganda activities, disseminating legal documents related to safety culture, culture of preventing labor accidents, occupational diseases...

To improve the quality of workers' meals, the branch's Trade Union regularly checks the quality of food, ensures food safety and hygiene, and adequate nutrition in the diet; provides toxic compensation for workers with milk and sugar. The branch also installs a cooling system to protect workers from the heat in the summer. For pregnant female workers, they are not allowed to work at night or work overtime.

The union actively coordinates with professionals to open training courses on occupational safety and hygiene knowledge for workers, such as simulated fire, explosion, and occupational accident drills. The number of workers trained in occupational safety techniques reaches 100%. The branch union regularly urges, inspects, and supervises compliance with safety regulations in production, preservation of safety equipment, and use of personal protective equipment, and recommends to production team leaders to comply with labor protection regulations...

Ensuring occupational safety and hygiene is carried out systematically and effectively by union members and employees at the Railway Transport Branch, thereby ensuring the health of employees, limiting occupational accidents, and contributing to the sustainable development of the enterprise.

With the characteristics of the petroleum industry, in addition to the task of ensuring supply for people, ensuring a safe working environment for employees is a top priority for Lao Cai Petroleum Company Limited.

Lao Cai Petroleum Company Limited currently has 31 petroleum stores, 60 liquefied petroleum gas stores and 1 petroleum depot. With a workforce of nearly 200 employees, of which 75% are directly exposed to a toxic working environment with many risks of occupational safety, occupational diseases, and fire and explosion, the company always focuses on and strictly complies with legal regulations on ensuring occupational safety and taking care of the health and life of its employees.

Over the years, the company has not had any unsafe incidents regarding fire prevention, fire fighting, or environmental safety. This result is due to the company actively implementing fire prevention, fire fighting, environmental protection, and labor safety training such as monitoring, collecting and treating hazardous waste; checking, reviewing, and replacing fire prevention and fire fighting equipment.
